After re-reading what you initially wrote, I do not recommend dual booting.  I recommend installing Linux Lite as the primary host operating system and Windows as a guest operating system (AKA as a virtual machine) using  either Virtual Box or VMware Player for Linux.

You ought to be able to use the Linux Lite Live CD to read and backup your Windows data.  You may have to contact Microsoft to get an activation code for your Windows virtual machine installation.

But since you're requesting dual booting, look into this thread: http://askubuntu.com/questions/69481/why-dont-i-have-the-option-install-ubuntu-alongside-with-them.

I haven't tried Matthew Moore's method.  If you were able to boot to Windows before this, and you're not now, you might want to reach out to him or do a web search into the problem you're having with the BCD method.

The laptop is about 5 years old, so not really new anymore. I dont have the option install Linux along side Windows when i boot from usb stick and start the installation from linux desktop.

I did try the easybcd method but when i reboot the laptop it doesnt boot into windows. I did exactly the same as in the video. So thats why i started topic because i dont have a clue how to get this working.

Hi,

If this is a "new Laptop", it's probably UEFI.
If that's the case, and I maybe mistaken, I don't think it's as simple as "install alongside"
@m654321 did an excellent tutorial on Dual-boot, but that was with Win8.1,
so not sure how applicable it is to Win10.?

If you want Windows to be the boot handler, consider the video below.  Otherwise, use the "Install Linux alongside Windows" option in the installation process of Linux Lite.  You can find information on that in the Install Guide section of the Linux Lite Help Manual (Menu, Favorites, Help Manual).

Got a HP Pavillion dv7 3120ed here. It has windows 10 home installed and i need to get Linux Lite on it in a dual boot with windows.
The laptop will be used in Linux most of the times but for somethings it needs to run windows.

What is the best way to install Linux Lite and keep windows 10 and have a dual boot system. Asking because i managed to screw things up for the last 3 times i tried it.
