I tried playing with the iconic feather graphic, but got frustrated that it could not be isolated from its black background. The feather as it's used on the default wallpaper has a black halo, and it bugs me.
Since I'm a fan of the clean, minimal, flat look of material design, I created this new feather logo. I think it's more consistent with design aesthetic going forward. And I had in mind that the bent feather could imply the letter "L." So here are some ideas.
dark, gold feather, with text

light, blue feather, with text
(http://i.imgur.com/cNhL8i2.png)
gold feather with text and a subtle texture
(http://i.imgur.com/M76YKSu.png)
blue feather alone, with texture
(http://i.imgur.com/hpOj1ba.png)
rotational symmetry, with subtle stripes

I built the feather in Inkscape, and compiled the wallpaper in GIMP. Obviously, many other variations are possible -- let me know if you're interested in seeing a particular twist on it. (I'm new here, so how do we say...: Please respect the work I've done by giving credit and by not creating derivative works without permission. :D )

Sick!! Amazing work!! :)

Great wallpapers

I'd like to suggest that these wallpapers be considered as default for Linux Lite 4.0. Less is more. Like it. Suits the Linux Lite concept.

Wow, I appreciate that @Ottawagrant! I think the ideas of 'lite' and 'minimal' fit well together too.
-
@whateverthing, these are very nice indeed. We'll see where and when we can include them :)

Great art maestro.
There must be a way to get rid of this halo, but how?I don't know, but still trying.
-
Thank you @Jerry, I'd be honored to be included!
I'm still playing with variations, and I think this color for the gold feather works better.

@zygmunto The only way to do it right (I think) would be to have the original artwork file, because it's an issue of layer transparency. You want to separate the semi-transparent feather layer from the dark background layer. I don't think it's possible to recreate that with just the flattened feather artwork.

This one I really enjoy. Wish I could also get it with the blue feather instead (should be easier on the eyes with dark themes).
Thank you for sharing!

@ralphy You bet, the blue on dark is a great combination. And here's a few more, 'cuz I just can't stop!

@whateverthing, please keep all of your master copies in one place, we may call on you one day ;)

@JmaCWQ Thanks, but no. That's the one I've seen, and it has that black halo. But that's OK -- it inspired me to move on, move ahead, and make something new.

@Jerry Oh yes, my Inkscape and Gimp files are organized and ready to go. ;D

No probs.
They look good those ones you've created.
I only use the feather on my panel, being a darker colour the halo isn't noticable.

@whateverthing ,
I like them, too. I'm using one already.

Hello,
corel/red or this similar colour feather, with still white in feather ?
How it has the L in feather, it can be the L of Lite, if you using the font similar form like the L in feather, then "ite" next to feather, it will to tie the Lite and feather as 1 unit, of Liteness.
Unsure where will placement Linux text in that idea.

Are you able to produce these 2 with 'Linux Lite' lettering included?
-
@Jerry You bet. Might as well throw in the light-theme versions too. (GIMP layers are the best! :D )

@whateverthing Thank You 8) , I like them a lot. :)
I have set the first one as my wallpaper.

@whateverthing will it be okay for me to make a menu button derivative, adding your coral red feather on to the existing menu button ?

@bitsnpcs Sure, that seems like a perfectly good use! Enjoy :D

@whateverthing Thank you :)

Hey @whateverthing ,
Is it alright if I use the feather you have designed to make some material styled wallpapers for Linux Lite?
Thanks.
-
Hi @sanmayjoshi -- sorry for the late reply. I'd be happy to see you use the logo on more LL wallpaper ideas. I'd ask that you link credit for the logo design back here. And I assume you wouldn't re-distribute the design, except among the LL community here.
Looking forward to what you create!

Hey @whateverthing ,
Don't worry, all conditions satisfied. ;) Btw you might want to distribute artwork under Creative Commons License v4, as it matches with your requirements. All it takes is to add line in your post- "Artwork distributed under CC BY v4-
https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode ".
I'll let you know when I post wallpapers on forum.
Cheers :)
-
@sanmayjoshi Thank you, good advice. I would add the non-commercial limitation.

Another idea for a wallpaper remix.

More in this style, large geometric abstract. Versions with and without the shadow effect. (The drop shadow is typical of Material Design, BTW)

Hey @whateverthing ,
I just posted a topic (https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/member-submitted-artwork/custom-bootload(splash)-screen/), where I have published an artwork which uses your awesome creation.
Make sure to reply there and let me know if you liked it! :)
