I had a box with a SiS card and I recall having to modify the xorg.conf file with the resolution/refresh I needed.

Here is a link on the how.

If you incorrectly set the resolution/refresh you may loose visual. You'll want to know how to edit the file from TTY.  (CTRL+ALT+F1) to return (CTRL+ALT+F7)

Right, yeah, I know that, see here-in lies the issue. It does not have any other selection but 1 resolution 640x800, no other selections. But, I noticed when I tried to go in and change my password (like I said before) the resolution was set properly, 1280 x920. I do a reboot after unsuccessfully changing the password and it is back to the larger screen resolution. (I remembered my password BTW) I have tried everything I can think of to get the resolution to a higher res but it just does not go there for the original boot up. If I put in the live usb it will work then too but not from the hard drive. Really perplexed here. IT (the laptop) is an AMD processed computer. Could that be an issue? Do I need to edit the grub so it stays in the right resolution?

Here is what I have, I think I need a different driver than what LL 3.8 is loading, even though research has said that it should have it.

My issue is this. When I boot a recently fresh install of LL 3.8 the screen resolution can only be set at 640x800. But when I have the live USB in it can be set to 1280x920. Does this have something to do with the SIS chip set? If so what is the solution?

Thanks. BTW it has been a while since ive been in here so please be kind.
