Marty,

That message is usually triggered when an update process is already active when a second update process is initiated.

The first process locks the update resources which prevents anything else starting an update.

The first process may be a background task, if so just need to wait for it to finish.
Or if the synaptic or lite software utility happens to be active they will lock the resources and need to be closed before an update can run.

I've split your post from the existing thread. In the future, it is probably best to avoid posting the same problem more than once and to raise a new topic rather than posting in a old thread unless your problem relates directly to the subject.

E: Unable to acquire the dpkg frontend lock (/var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend), is another process using it?
