Hi Trinidad

Ive had the Blank New Tab Page installed since I first installed Chrome some years ago because I don't like fussy screen displays (I hate icons on the desktop also) and
it has never caused me any issues to date - but many thanks for your suggestion.

Could just be this extension: Blank New Tab Page : version 1_2  Try disabling it before trying other options like disabling hardware acceleration.TC

Hi Steve

After googling the white screen issue I cam across this link and followed it's instructions to turn off Hardware Acceleration within Chrome and having done so this seems to have fixed my problem
 https://www.partitionwizard.com/partitionmagic/white-screen.html

However, after hastily marking my issue as solved yesterday, only for it to reappear - I will wait 24 hours before re-marking it as "SOLVED" this time

Hi Steve

I'm happy for you to merge my 2 threads as you  have suggested and unmarking SOLVED. As I am not the only one experiencing this issue, one can only hope that it is related in some way to one of the 2 updates issued yesterday and that a further update will be issued to correct the problem.

Apologies for not being entirely accurate on this point in my earlier post. You are correct that Firefox was the browser packaged with LL5 series however, Chrome was included in "Lite Software" options (in place of Chromium which had been the option in LL3 series that I had used previously)  and I installed it from there.

Thank you, I was struggling to think how Lite Tweaks could be causing the symptom.
If you are certain that Lite Tweaks is not contributing, I'll look at merging your two threads and unmarking SOLVED. With your permission, I'll try to tidy up the coding and size tagging on your posts.

One thing still confusing me.

Are you sure about this ?  I'm really curious because as far as I am aware, Firefox was the browser packaged with all Linux Lite versions from 1.0.0 to 5.8.  Chrome was selected and packaged into Linux Lite from version 6.0 onwards so I think a 5.8 system must have had chrome added by some method.

Edit - two similar threads merged and posts edited for readability and topic consistency.

Hi Steve

Below I have listed the information you requested HOWEVER, you should know that this morning You Tube, Vimeo etc are once again showing a white video screen on Chrome Browser (but work fine on Firefox) so my ascertation that Lite Tweaks is causing the problem may very well be false - especially considering this mornings findings and the similar issue raised by FunkAndCode in their post.

Are *all* the 5.8 Lite Tweaks graded as 'Safe' really selected  - YES, with the exception of "Taskbar Restore" as I wish to preserve my personalised taskbar.
My method for using Light Tweaks is as follows :-
1)  Open LT
2)  Highlight the  "Grade" Column and sort so all caution rows are listed at the top with all safe options listed below.
3)  Tick in every "Safe" option with the exception of "Taskbar Restore"
4)  Begin
5)  Repeat steps 2-5 until everything clear

I hope this helps

Edit - to remove spurious font changes

There have been updates to both Linux kernel and Chrome on or around 18th/19th March which doesn't help.

In order to try to replicate can you confirm

1) What method was used to install chrome on LL5.8 ?

2) The results of these commands
Code: [Select]
cat /etc/llver
Code: [Select]
inxi
Code: [Select]
inxi -GA -xxx
Code: [Select]
inxi -r
Code: [Select]
find /boot/vmli*
Code: [Select]
google-chrome --version
3) Any extensions you have for chrome - open 'chrome://system' in the brower and expand the 'extensions' list

4) Are *all* the 5.8 Lite Tweaks graded as 'Safe' really selected and run every time as described, if not please tell us which ones you use.

Hi Steve, Jerry

After my previous issue ,reported earlier today, regarding Latest Update disables video on Chrome but not Firefox I ran a timeshift restore point to yesterday evening as Steve suggested and You Tube video then displayed as expected and I thought all was well and so marked my issue as solved.

10 minutes later LL advised that there were 2 updates (1 important) - the same 2 updates that I believed has caused the initial problem however I installed these again, with some trepidation and then checked You Tube and the video was still displaying video as expected.

As I do after every update I then ran all SAFE options in Lite Tweaks to remove tidy up the system and then checked You Tube video again and once again I had lost the video display that I thought had been caused by the update but now appears that Lite Tweaks is actually causing this problem.

I also noted that some additional options appear to have been added to Lite Tweaks and I wonder if one of these additions might be causing this issue. Perhaps you might like to run the safe options in Lite Tweaks on your own machines to ascertain if you are able to replicate the problem at your end.

I have once again used Timeshift to restore my machine to last nights settings, and re-installed the available updates but HAVE NOT run Lite Tweaks this time and once again You Tube and the video was still displaying video as expected.

I hope you are able to understand my process in identifying the possible cause of this issue and are able to offer a solution to allow me to be able to use Lite Tweaks in the future.

I never used chrome on anything earlier than LL6.x  so not sure what to suggest apart from clearing the caches etc and trying the browser without extensions - if you have any.  Do you have any restore points made with System Restore Utility (aka timeshift) that you could try to rollback to ?

A recently updated Chrome installation (Version 123.0.6312.58 (official Build) (64-bit)) without any additional extensions on LL6.6 is playing Youtube video as expected for me.

Since installing the lastest updates this morning video is no longer displayed in You Tube on the Chrome Browser. This was working perfectly prior to the update as I was watching You Tube video's on Chrome prior to performing the update.

When in You Tube I can see the thumbnail size video if I slide the curser along the progress bar underneath the main video window but the main video window remains blank wether I select Default view, Theatre Mode or Full Screen within You Tube . The same problem arises with video in Vimeo on Chrome

This problem appears to be specifically related to the Chrome Browser as everything works fine in both You Tube and Vimeo when using Firefox.

Is there a quick fix for this problem or are we going to have to wait for a further update to fix the problem ?
