dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct

Update to the above post. Ran "dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem" as sudo and it worked. Problem solved.

When updating or installing software I keep getting "dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. "
When I try running in terminal it does nothing - just seems to hang. Reboot does not solve issue.
