The Shortcut Pane provides shortcuts to different folders on your system.
You can add important folders to the  Thunar's Shortcut Pane with simply dragging and dropping a folder to the pane.
This is the wrong way of doing it. If you drop it on an existing shortcut you will acctually move the folder you have dragged to the folder the shortcut is pointing to.

I don't know why the XFCE developers made that possible.

This is the correct way of doing it. You have to move your mouse untill the horizontal line appears.

Once you add the shortcut you can right-click on it and remove it or rename it.

Very nice Misko, thanks.

I've "slipped" with the mouse and put one folder into another accidentally. It wasn't hard to fix but I wish that specific action could be assigned a prompt to prevent it from happening unintentionally.

Thanks, Misko! I've definitely done that before. Another method that may help avoid moving folders is to right-click on a folder and then Send To > Side Pane (Create Shortcut). I'm a big fan of SpaceFM but I can see why Thunar appeals to people.

Hello misko,

Thank you for the tutorial :)
This would be useful in the help manual.

Happened to me a few times. :)
I think the best way of handling this would be to to use Send To > Side Pane (Create Shortcut) as Mike said. They should disable adding shorcuts with drag and drop feature and just add two items to the right-click menu. Like 'Move Shortcut Up' and 'Move Shortcut Down'.

Thanks. I forgot all about that. I almost never use "Send To".
Anyway, if you want to change the order you have to drag and drop the shortcut.

altman and bitsnpcs: You are welcome fellows.

Ok, nice. :)
Off the subject. What icons are you using buddy?
I've installed those icons. http://www.noobslab.com/2014/11/a-new-icon-theme-vibrancy-colors.html
Kind of like them, though they use more space then a half of LL DVD.
