Title: Add entire folder to Audacious
Post by: Trip on June 05, 2015, 04:50:20 PM
Add an entire folder of songs to Audacious music player...

Open your file manager (Thunar), select Configure Custom Actions in the Edit menu.
Press the button on the right hand side of the custom actions box that has the big plus sign on it.

In the Basic tab enter the following information:
Description = Play Music Album
Description = Play folder of songs.
Command = audacious %F
Then select the Audacious icon from the application icons section after clicking on the icon box.

In the Appearance Conditions tab, tick only the Directories box.
File Pattern = *

Press the ok button when finished and close the Configure Custom Actions program.

You should now be able to right click on any folder and have all of the songs queue up for playing in Audacious.
Warning: You might need to log out and back in before you see it in your menu??

Took me a while to figure out so I hope it saves someone the stress :)

Nice Trip, thanks for sharing.  ;)
I used
Code: [Select]
audacious -e %Fas a command
and Directories and Audio Files as appearance conditiones.
That way I can add entire directiories or select files and add to the playlist.

Audacious has some good plugins.
Just discovered and playing with them.

I've set the status icon to change the song on mouse scroll, AOSD, and bind some keys.

Good call Misko.

I tried that myself but noticed that it only adds the songs to the current playlist.
My way wipes the current playlist and just adds the album making it great for playing an album at a time.
I think I might set up another shortcut for queuing songs though. Very useful :)

EDIT: Works a treat cheers :D
Yeah Audacious is pretty damn configurable. It's the only player I bother with any more.
Would make a good inclusion into Linux Lite by default too (with a little tweaking).

We ran a Poll on the topic and the community chose Clementine.

Clementine, the one and only, champion of community. :)

Haven't used it much in the past. I remembered only that it has a gtk+ and winamp interface.
Removed the thunar custom action, because I found a better way. I can drag and drop files and folders into playlists. :)

Ah, didn't know that.
I liked Clementine the last time I used it but tend to stay away from the iTune type library management players.
I also had some problems with it at the time but that was quite a few years ago now. Could be time to try it again :)

I had noticed that but decided on this way as It starts the album playing straight away and puts Audacious minimised into the system tray automatically; and it gives the clean playlist for just the album.
What can I say, I'm lazy  ;)

I use Audacious myself only because I prefer Winamp type players plus the ability to use Winamp skins :)

Haha, OK. ;)
Yes, indeed, it starts playing with a single click. I used to have Mate desktop with Caja file manager. Caja played audio files on mouse over. Too bad it has all those mate dependancies that cause double whisker menu items.

I used qmmp and have some Winamp skins. Qmmp also supports them.
I uploaded them to dropbox.

If you are interested just put them in ~/.local/share/audacious/Skins/
I had to create that path, it's not made when installing audacious.

I installed 3.6.2 because it has a double size view (Ctrl+D). My resolution is 1920x1080 and the window is a bit small for my eyes.

I tried the Caja thing but quickly realised that I tend to start a folder of music playing and walk away leaving the mouse pointer where it was. This resulted in two versions playing at once. Couldn't get myself out of the habit unfortunately  :D

I like the look of the WinAMP skins, but find them a little fiddly to use. The basic setup is perfect for my tastes at the moment. I hope they don't change it too much when they move over to QT.

Got to be said that I'm really happy with this setup. It's the first time that I've managed to do that so easily over the last 10+ years of using Linux.
I can quick play a single song by double clicking on it, add more songs as I go along to easily create playlists, or open a full folder and just have that album in my playlist. I don't think I'll even bother to update to the latest version of Audacious; Not unless I encounter any problems anyway ;)

Cheers Misko.
Qmplay2 looks great and will be worth a test but mainly for the video capabilities I think. Love the style of it though :D

My set up:
That's what drove me mad when I tried the WinAMP skins; the player and playlist box being different sizes  :o
I might give them another go when the newer version of Audacious comes around that lets you make the WinAMP skins bigger.

That's just me expanding the playlist box to see full artist and song titles. Otherwise you can easily resize to match.
