- Refine, improve existing Linux Lite applications in their existing computer languages.

- New Lite apps to be developed in Yad. eg. Lite Sources.

- Help Manual to have a built in, offline search feature. Solution must be resource friendly. Getting there, correspondence and language issues with Indian dev.

- Lite Anti Virus (see below)

Sit down for a few days, hours, or what have you and fell free to post here any ideas you have regarding contributing to the above.

In 3.6 we'll be releasing Lite Sources which looks to be complete. This application will hopefully encourage more people to make use of closer geographical locations for our software. New people to Linux won't understand 'repos' so we have some educating to do :)

I am working on Lite Anti Virus in my spare time, if it pans out. I'm not a big fan of having this, it's never about personal preferences, I get so much email about this it's not funny, but in all honesty it does have a use and it will be expected by Windows people, some of which will still dual boot and need a virus scanner on Linux, amongst other obvious reasons. There are no easy to use, responsive Clam GUI frontends, and I've tried them all. This also presents an opportunity for us to encourage all Linux users to use our Software thus increasing our awareness in the free software world. Once I have a working version ready, I'll put it on Github for us to play with.

A list of our current software and what (if anything) we'd like to see improved:

Lite Manual

Lite Software

Lite Themes

Lite Tweaks

Lite Updates Notify

Lite Upgrade

Lite User Manager

Lite Welcome

Lite Sources

Cheers :)

One very common problem that still exists in the Linux world, is giving users a full proof way of installing the correct drivers, be it wireless, video or other.

This thread is designed to explore the possibility of releasing in 3.8 an application that:

- Detects the users hardware.
- Displays only the correct driver/s to install.

With current drivers management software, a list is shown to the user. With a first time linux user, this is daunting.
@ralphy thoughts?
Lite Tweaks has been moved to pkexec :)

Few notes just in case you wonder:

1- I removed over 250 lines in lite-tweaks-super (code cleanup)
2- lite-tweaks-super will ask for Admin password only once while executed, meaning that as long as Lite Tweaks is open and an admin has authenticated once, it will not prompt for the password over and over again for each tweak that requires admin privileges. This is a good way not to nag users constantly when they want to run additional tweaks without leaving the application.

There is more to cleanup in lite-tweaks script and I will be putting some energy into that later. I have taken notes of few sections that can be improved as well as polishing some of the existing tweaks but since we are moving from gksu to pkexec I didn't want to loose focus and put the energy towards testing it as much as I could.

Give it a good run please. I tested as much as I could before pushing it up as I said. It looks fine on my end.

Cheers!

Jerry,

This is what I have in my notes to work on next:

1- Lite Tweaks (move to pkexec)
2- Review Lite Upgrade code to set defaults in /etc/skel for all accounts so that changes made by default doesn't apply to the current admin only but also to new accounts.
- Enhancement: At a later time we need to also look at Lite Upgrade execution so that currently active accounts other than ADMIN are also updated accordingly. For example, WINSNAP and others are currently applying to the ADMIN account and to / etc /skel/ for new accounts, but in systems where there are multiple accounts already other than the ADMIN account these settings are not applying. E.g.: I have 2 accounts in my system ralphy(admin) and yaima (regular user) - Lite upgrade sets defaults for ralphy and / etc/ skel but for the current user account (yaima) these defaults are not being applied. I'm sure you get the idea.

3- Icons: We need to work something out with Karl. Our applications have their own icon outside the default apps folder. So, we may not really need more than 1 scalable icon after all. Meaning that Karl may only need to create 1 SCALABLE icon to cover all needs. I think this will work for us and offload some extra work on Karl's side. Our apps icons only need to show on Desktop, Menu and Taskbar and with an scalable icon these three are covered (unless I'm missing something).

[member=2]Jerry[/member] ,

I would like to get our applications away from gksu so that we can make them multi-session usable. There was a post in the forum not long ago asking this same thing:

https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/sugge.../#msg30366

I know it is more work but I would like to use pkexec for multi-users and also for security reasons. Everyone is moving away from gksu and it hasn't been maintained for a while. With pkexec we not only bring more security to the execution but we also make it uniform across the GUI plus we allow administrators to authenticate from non admin accounts. There is absolutely no additional requirement or package to install so we could roll this out yesterday... the update will add the policy during installation. ( I have to create the policy for each of our applications of course and update the code accordingly).

I have already done the work for "Install Updates"... below is an example of wha it will be like:

I'm going to reorganize it and use default Linux Lite screenshots. I think I have some good improvements for the Mount Drives section specifically.... working on it but it's gonna take a while.
