@torreydale

Thanks for the corrections on Lite Tweaks.
I guess my post was a little confusing, I personnaly don't care which browser people use I was just mentioning that Brave I think has more "visibility" than the others in the list mentionned by OP. I personnaly prefer an open-source browser but like you mentionned, some features are just different/not available in some.
Currently I totally agree that Firefox should stay the default option.

Fun facts...
I dont' really know how reliable this site is but, destroying my own comments, Brave is not in the top 50 browser list on market shares.From the list, Chrome is at 64%and Firefox at 10%.  Opera 1.6%, Chromium 0.15%, Vivaldi 0.1% and SeaMonkey 0% show up though.

@TheDead

I use Brave Browser.  I didn't know it existed until about 2 months ago.  It would not be the draw to the distro.  Firefox is more well known.  You can save bookmarks between platforms using a Firefox profile.  You cannot with Brave yet.

Jerry did not add Brave to Lite Software.  He added it to the list of browsers you can set as default via Lite Tweaks.

I think you're projecting your browser feelings onto what you perceive others would want.  I know what some people besides me want because I read about it in this forum and I have helped people in this forum, the Linux.com forum, and in person make the switch to Linux.  No one has said "If this only had the Brave Browser, I'd be all over it."

From my experience working with people and their Linux transition, I can say most regular people are not browser snobs.  They just want to get to the Internet.  And when they're browsing, they'd like to be able to use their bookmarks.

Again, I use and like Brave on my PC and mobile devices.  But it's not ready to replace Firefox as the pre-installed browser in Linux Lite.  It's just not.

Heya!

Of the list, Brave yould have a better chance to appeal to Windows users migrating to Linux Lite.

The others are unknown to most but on a side note, I tested PaleMoon and SeaMonkey versus a big bunch of others this week and these two are the most friendly ressource wise *and* able to play Youtubes easily.

Also, if I remember correctly from another forum thread, Jerry added Brave to Lite Software I think.
It has an ad-blocker integrated so put the Linux Lite web site and forums to the white list. ;)

Happy holidays!

@icedigger

Furthermore, the programs you list would probably be considered niche apps, and those familiar with them are already aware of how to install them.  Linux Lite is designed to appeal to the new Linux user coming from another platform like Windows.  As such, some decisions are going to be made on their behalf.  The most popular open source options for browsing and office suite are the ones chosen as defaults.  Those being Firefox and Libre Office.

As far as Lite Software is concerned, not every user is going to require the programs of Lite Software.  A music player or a dedicated book reader come to mind.  The programs in Lite Software are often chosen based on open source popularity or sometimes based on a poll of forum users.  Even wallpaper choices often come down to a poll.  So if you want to be in a position to influence that or Lite Software via a poll, stay engaged with the forum.

Cheers!

Unfortunately no. We already have a procedure in place for adding new software and it must go through Lite Software.
