I understand. Majority, though, is not going to notice or think about it, but what they would notice instead, is the speed of computation, including perhaps the efficiency of web browser function.

EDIT:

Maybe this could be negotiated via the Lite Welcome screen?

PS:

Having checked up on the 'xfce4-cpufreq-plugin', I think it is less user friendly and compact, compared to the 'indicator-cpufreq'. Besides, the tray icon for the 'xfce4' version is rather messy, aesthetically speaking.

No, with something like this, people need to choose for themselves. Your suggestion did make it into 4.6

@Jerry, have you considered making the 'Performance' mode default?

Given that this is already a feature in Windows, I will add it into 4.6 A good and fair suggestion, thank you.

Hey @Jerry, I found THIS page telling how to switch Ubuntu mode of operation into performance orientated, changing from the apparently default powersaving one. I think the program listed at the end - the 'indicator-cpufreq' - could come as default install on the distro, if fully compatible, to help people choose the performance mode more easily. If that makes better sense and does work, that is.
