Title: Linux Lite Updates
Post by: jack action on September 30, 2019, 07:06:38 PM
Some feedback for the program Linux Lite Updates (LLU) on LL 4.4.

I encounter a special case where I had to answer a question before updating and, of course, the program couldn't handle it, so it ended without updating.  I ended up doing a 'sudo apt update' on the terminal with the following output (the question I answered is on line 16):

Changes in PPA's cannot be universally fixed. They need to be addressed on a case by case basis as each solution is unique.

I was just wondering if there was a way to answer the questions with LLU.  Or maybe write instructions as to what needs to be done (something like 'Some questions needs answers from you before updating.  Open a terminal and run "sudo apt update" before running LLU again')

For someone who is not skilful with the terminal, it can become a tedious job to find what is wrong (and what to do to correct it) and the outcome is they can't do updates!

My own "solution" was to disable almost all of the PPAs.  Especially if the software from the PPA is available in the Ubuntu repositories that Linux Lite uses.

I've dropped the number of PPA'S in Linux Lite each consecutive Series. Gimp was the only PPA left in Series 4.x Hopefully in Series 5.x there won't be any.
