How about better support for Intel HD Graphics. XFCE 4 has a few problems with it, even with the display compositor turned on. Also how about adding Intel Graphics Update Toolto Lite Software Repo.
Something I would like to see in LL4 would be a usb writer and formater similar to the one in Linux Mint,it is simple and very easy to use and works first time every time, far easier to use than say Unetbootin in the Buntus !
I've helped several people make the switch to Linux, and I think it would be nice to adopt an OEM install like the Linux Mint distribution. With that, one can give a new user a computer, and that user can create their own username, password, hostname, etc. For them, it is a familiar experience to starting up a brand new computer.
Jerry, I know your feelings about all things G. I wonder however whether you would sort out Google Earth for linux so it can be loaded with ease from a ppa .I note your point 5) BUT there is no alternative to street view which is an invaluable tool. No Linux alternative AFAIK.

Hi, I'd like to point out a problem that all new Windows users migrating to LL for the first time will face. This is literally just about every user, unless they deal with no image files ever. Here it is:
What are we (the LL community) expecting ex-Windows users to do on a fresh LL install when they need to make a very simple edit to an image for the first time (e.g. simple rotation, crop or resize)? This can happen quite early on in their LL usage, when they're still not-so-familiar with the system.
With a current fresh LL installation, if you have just switched over from Windows, those users will be storing their vacation pics, family pics, whatever, under the Pictures folder in their linux home directory, just like they did in Windows - so far, so good. Then they decide to resize a few of them to send to grandma via email (who doesn't do social media), or just need a simple crop or rotate. What are we expecting these users to do?
They could click on the image to open it, and find out that, oh, I can only VIEW it that way. I can't DO anything to it.
By contrast, in Windows, as far as I'm aware (correct me if I'm wrong), you can do simple crops and rotations and resize without expecting the user to actually open Photoshop.
Likewise, I feel that in LL 4.0 there should be a way to do that, which:
- comes pre-bundled in the LL 4.0 release (i.e. does not require a download from Synaptic Package Manager)
- is user-friendly and modern-looking
- does not require the user to open Gimp. That would be like expecting a Windows user to open Photoshop every time they want to just crop or resize.
I realize we can't expect to predict every eventuality that every Windows user might want, but it seems to me that this (simple image edits) would be a fairly reasonable expectation by ex-Windows users.
sudo apt-get install gpicview
sudo apt-get install nomacs
Something that is super light that I've just tried is Gpicview:Code: [Select]sudo apt-get install gpicview
Nomacs is quite good too:Code: [Select]sudo apt-get install nomacs
in a test machine.
Suggestion: move ~/.conky folder as conky (non hidden) to ~/.config/
for the sake of keeping home clean and structured.
Thanks for your consideration
Rubbish! Tried MX-17 only the other day and found it annoying at the least. It doesn't come even close to Linux Lite for aesthetics or usability, that task bar monstrosity is horrible! Each to their own though, not everyone likes the same things. I really hope Linux Lite doesn't become more like MX!
Not trying to start any trouble. Just hoping Jerry can use this info.

Also. Our distro Team <AntiX>. Is checking out switching over eudev also.

I have no dog in this hunt. No druthers. I run how I like. What ever Jerry builds. I bet it will be the bee's knees. Good luck with 4.0.

Where's the devices supported list?
Suggestion: replace KeepassX by KeepassXC (https://keepassxreboot.github.io/)
Once I suggested (https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/suggestions-and-feedback/suggestion-replace-keepassx-with-keepass2) replacing KeepassX by Keepass2 which I still mainly use (maybe more out of habit). But meanwhile I have also KeepassXC (https://keepassxreboot.github.io/) installed and use it, too.
Due to the character of Linux Lite to keep things simple & light I assume KeepassXC (https://keepassxreboot.github.io/) would be the better option. No mono and wine required. And nevertheless it offers auto-typing.
Thanks for your consideration
@rokytnji it says 'idevice' in the name, so I assume the application is for Apple products. I went to the github page, but the documentation is non existent. That in itself is a huge put off for me.

Keepassx (10) actually has less dependencies then Keepassxc (17). Keepassxc also requires a number of qt5 libs. Whats the difference in memory usage?
@LL-user Keepassx doesn't use wine and mono. I've never used or offered KeePass2 so I don't know it's crash history.
Cheers :)
Just to chip in. I use KeepPassX 2.90.2 (which I believe is in the Lite Software list) revision 3679b2170142c14362fa75e990ef85b80b1b1b46. Assuming that this updates normally when using menu / Favorites / Install Updates, then this should be the latest version as of mid-February.
I am able to use its auto-type feature without (obvious) problems, so it does that that: Right-click database entry you created for ID and password and left-lick Perform Auto-type.
If you should update or change to a different version as suggested, I would need to be able to convert the KeePassX 2.90.2 compatible database to being usable by KeePassXC.
Thanks.
HI,
I Found a lot of softwares, specially daemon are installed but not actually used by the common users: in my case I never use the samba, nmbd, smbd....
I suggeste to install the most used and leave the user to complete and custome his installation when necessary.
regards
I'm not sure if it has been mentioned but, maybe to include HandBrake (The open source video transcoder) in the Lite Software menu. I use it for both Windows/Linux works really well and it's open source :D
I've just tested and the Keepassx 2.02 database works with Keepassxc.
File backup is a habit everyone should practice! I use FreeFileSync to backup files to an external drive. It's pretty easy to figure out, and has lots of options. I choose which directories to backup, and it's smart about updating just the files that have changed or are new. (I think it's a different use case from what Systembak does.)

Please replace the startup Boot Splash screen wallpaper.
Replace the white-feather-on-yellow-background for startup boot splash with either of the two new Linux Lite wallpapers, such as the image shown by @Jerry in the Linux Lite 3.6 release notes (reproduced below).
Reason this change would benefit the majority of users: A more modern yet LL-specific wallpaper was included in the new wallpapers from LL 3.6 onward (i.e. as seen in image shown below). Because of this change, why not add this more modern image to the boot splash screen also? First impressions are important, and ALL USERS see the startup boot splash screen! So modernizing this every-time experience with the flat design shown below will be of benefit to all users.

Arg! I so wish Krita would replace Gimp. So much more like PhotoShop. ...
I'm with those who say keep it light and simple, and let the user install whatever extra software (s)he wishes. Keep it light!
My one real concern with anything based on Ubu 18.04 is going to be the new "data collection" feature. Presumably can be disabled in the installer, but it's on by default.
Let me put it this way, if LL starts data collecting, I'm outta here. It's 'not on by default' because it's not even on, PERIOD.
...so presumably you can surgically remove any such data-collection code which might be in there in the future.
I tried v4.0 beta . I cannot install systemback. I find it useful and simple to create live cdThe maker of SystemBack has discontinued "* DEVELOPMENT AND SUPPORT ENDED *"
Please put it back. The new version is useless to me. Thanks
Thrilled that we as a community have had the chance to offer suggestions.
Goody goody, will we have a Beta2 or RC before Final? :D
Cheers!

MX Linux, and it's all said. do not look for more suggestions, check MX Linux and you will have millions of things to improve. ;D
By the looks, the Beta is pretty solid. Traditionally we only do a Beta, then Final. My goal is to always make a Beat as solid as possible.
Hi everyone,
LETS DO THIS!
I'm now taking suggestions for new features in Linux Lite 4.0
A big thank you from me and the developers :)
Jerry
NN may I suggest you look at the first post in this thread for for constitutes a considerable suggestion. You should also see here - https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/suggestions-and-feedback/linux-lite-4-0-suggestions-welcomed/msg40769/#msg40769
Feel free to hang on to your suggestions for 4.2 when I start that thread. :)
It would be utterly counter-intuitive to remove whoopsie and apport from a distro designed for new Linux users coming directly from MS. None of them are running LL headless servers, and generally they are inexperienced with Linux. The chances of an inexperienced user unwittingly breaking a new system over time would increase dramatically without whoopsie and apport.
and for a beginner who has just migrated from Windows to Linux the last is similar to Chinese (I remember my first impression of Linux)
After installing Sound Juicer it ripped it easily, quickly, with zero errors, and produced a good rip 1+hour duration, audio wise.
Quick question and maybe suggestion for you guys, I don't have my LiLi to test at the moment but is Chromium in Lite Software beacause it's PPA only, etc.?
If it's available in the "official" channels, I would suggest maybe checking if it could be a contender to replace FireFox.
I Like FF but and I may be wrong but I did a few personnal tests and the new-ish engine in FireFox now seam to use more memory than Chromium, even if advertised otherwise. And the browser seems "heavy" on lower end machines(?). I didn't check the exact download file size but seams about the same.

Besides soundjuicer, try ripperx, ripoff and asunder, too.
sudo apt install ripperx ripoff asunder -y
Test them all and then choose the best. Maybe you will leave a message then about your impressions of them for other users? :)
If I am not mistaken, Asunder is included in MX-Linux.
No I am not your servant , you test it if you wish to.
