I would second Wirezfree suggestion to add ability to change Samba (netbios name) to Lite Tweaks..

@Jerry,

My bad, I forgot about Lite Tweaks  :-[ :-[

Is it feasible to add the Samba part into Lite Tweaks..??

No support for these files yet (hevc) in 2.4

http://www.h265files.com/

Before suggesting

http://askubuntu.com/questions/631200/unable-to-play-hevc-files-on-ubuntu-14-04-lte

vlc segfaults ran from terminal  in linux lite with version 2.16 stable build using that link and suggestion. Unixmen is a dead link for me.
mpv just plays sound but no video
same for smplayer.

file used was Tears of Steel. Later versions of vlc support this but are uninstallable in Linux lite because library depends versions are too old and so it says "wont be installed".

I'm not a programmer, so have no idea on what's involved..??

For "Branding, Image and Consistency"
How about making "Lite Software" and "Lite Tweaks" look like "Lite Control Centre"

It's certainly doable, but LCC is written in python, the other 2 are in bash/zenity. The change would require so much work I'm getting a headache already  :P

Firefox and Thunderbird will stay as the default web and mail client, I have to make that point here. The only possible change is having Chrome as the default web browser, but we will have to see about that as time goes on. Remember one of the key criteria, there has to be a sense of familiarity for our target audience.

Great to see ideas coming in. We've a long way to go to LL 2.8 February 2016, so please feel free to keep submitting ideas

So. I usually keep my pie hole shut and let others make suggestions. But I already enjoy having "glances" installed in LL out of the box  so I figured this little program which you could call a poor mans itune/pandora radio player might be considered in a 2.8 default install also.
I have it already installed in all my installs along with "glances" . Which you guys turned me onto.

So kinda sorta repaying the favor, so to speak. The github link is here

mpsI know console applications do not get a lot of love or respect from Window refugee users.
But this is a small application that will not take up a lot of iso space (especially if going with dvd) and has a

lot of features for the small footprint. Especially for folks with hardware challenged XP gear that want to run

Linux Lite and do not have a lot of ram or cpu to bring in to launch something. Use it or not. Up to you.
I just thought I'd mention it.

Edit: In action on my box

Firefox & Thunderbird  8)

I think Firefox & Thunderbird should stay as default browser and mail programs. Even in dark ages when I used Windows, I used Netscape or Firefox browser and Netscape or Thunderbird mail. Even then I knew enough not to use Internet Explorer. On my iMac, I still used Firefox browser.

Most newbies to Linux will be familiar with Firefox and Thunderbird. Those who prefer other browsers or mail programs will probably know how to install it themselves after installing Linux Lite.

I would agree... Keep Firefox and Thunderbird as a staple.. I don't currently use Thunderbird but neither do I use Outlook Express/Live Mail (thou I did).
"Most" end users I come across access mail via a web browser on a pc, or on their "device" with the default client...

With that - I like options... Maybe expanding on Lite Software to include a wider array; a few items with same functionality that the people here like and tested.... Say 2 or 3 additional of each.. How it is now just expanding a bit... If its not listed in Lite Software there's always the Install Software repository (Synaptic) or beyond..

Maybe have Lite Software have sections/headers (similar to the whisker menu):
Internet - Firefox (installed) - Chrome - and a +1 or 2....
Multimedia - same way and etc etc etc...
These are easily added/removed as deemed fit..

Keeping to whats Windows familiar and Linux Lite tried and true...
Lite Software = Recommended/Suggested
Synaptic = All Options

The Lightening Calendar http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/projects/calendar/ add-on for Thunderbird installed would be helpful for newbies to make Thunderbird complete if they had been using whatever Windows calls their calendar now.

Hi,
I would prefer Geary than ThunderBird becasue of its simplicity.
For working use, ThunderBird is no doubt.

+1 for Geary. Excellent mail program.

Hello @Jerry

I would love to see this functional side issue resolved.
And I think there would be many Laptop users in your dept if you and your team could pull this one off :)

I have posted it in the forum allready. So I will redirect it there: https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/other/laptop-suspends-instead-of-shutting-down-in-linux-lite-2-6-64bit/

In essence it's a suspend when your Laptop Lid is already closed thing :)

Thank you for your work,

I suggest a new plymouth theme like that  :)

I like mine dark.  8)

I made this for a boots plash but now use it as image behind grub text. I like watching the text show what my computer is doing.
