How can I change the startup splash screen image?... the one that is the white-yellowish background with the feather? It's is painfully bright when used in a dark room. I REALLY hate it. Thanks for help in advance. Note; I'm not talking about the Xfce splash screen, but the one that displays prior to loading Xfce. I don't know which component is responsible for that part of the bootup sequence.

This thread is related but doesn't seem to work for LL v3.0

I'm not at home right now, but I believe the path is now /usr/share/plymouth/themes/liteboot/

The location has changed just to trick us all ;D
gksudo thunar /usr/share/plymouth/themes/liteboot/background.png
That's the one that has to be edited/replaced.
The rest of the steps are the same as the other post.
Edit: Yep, Jerry beat me to it 8)

Your eyes are welcome ;D
I changed mine a little while ago as well, in Gimp I went Colours > Invert, made it a nice deep blue.

I tried this solution but it only changes the image on shutdown.
On boot it is still the same bright image ???
edit: forget it. I did't update the initramfs ;D

Same here. I replaced that background.png file and it had no effect at boot up. thoughts?
[edit] didn't see the above step. trying now...
sudo update-initramfs -u

I agree that the default splash image in 3.0 is too light. I'll improve it for 3.2

Remember when they put a list of 10 things you should do after install ubuntu ? ....I think it is coming for LL and this would the 1st thing to do until v3.2... as Jerry promised.

Yes I remember following advice from one of those lists in the past.
I have my own list of what to do after installing LL and no doubt others would have too, changing anything I don't like or prefer different is usually high on that list 8)
