Oke so i checked my harddisk, (I love the tools included with linux lite)
It told me the disk was about to die on me, it ran for 4years and some months and was at its end.
I replaced it with an 1 TB disk and now this run smoothly again.

Thanks for the support.

Anyway thanks for the pointers to the (possible solution) :)

I so want have my little Asrock machine run linux lite, if i can get it to work reliable i'll donate some $/€.

SOLVED?

I think I have found  an answer to my particular problem but still not sure what triggered the problem in the first place.
From posts elsewhere concerning blank screens on laptops after suspent etc - Light Locker was discussed .

My issue was slightly different , i.e desktop with CRT monitor.

I had previously explored the  Desktop display settings options to see whether they had any effect - no change.  i.e changing backround from blank to backround picture etc.

After the upgrade to 2.6 from 2.4,  I had adjusted the Power Manager  setting for monitor staged shut down, and I had recently added the pc suspend to the schedule.  This seemed to be working OK  without problems, but before the problem posted.
So I checked setting in Light Locker and found for some reason ( my action? Can't be sure) that “enable Light Locker slide button was set to on.  So disabled this and restarted -  Problem persisted.

So with the light locker still  unchanged to off  went to Application Autostart and unclicked liight locker  and then restarted.
Also went back into Application Autostart and Light Locker was no longer present as an added option - i.e it had been removed from the list of active start ups.

Success!!  Normal service resumed – Desktop display =  Black screen but with ICONS  - menu bar as before on bottom if screen.  The latter had always been present during the problem and functioned normally.

Not sure if this will be of help to others -  :)

Not sure if the above will help

Hello Linux Lite friends.

I have this weird problem that keeps bugging me. When start my machine it sometimes just shows me a black screen with a mouse pointer
I can fix it but its a lot of hassle.

This is what i need to do to fix the problem:
press ctrl-alt-F1
login at command prompt.
sudo stop lightdm
startxfce4
then im back at the desktop, i reboot.
Now in some cases this will fix it, how ever sometimes it doesn't.

If it did fix it i do:
ctrl-atl-F1
login at prompt.
sudo stop lightdm
remove my xfce config.(rm -rf ~/.config/xfce4)
startxfce4
That wil show me my desktop again. I reboot.

After startup:
Then i do a restore of a backup i made, this fixes most all my settings except for the panels.

Can any one tell me where to look for the problem? Why are my xfce settings causing problems?
I have the following running:
conky, shiki theme, cpu-graph plugin, weather plugin.
