Hi Butter, please attach a copy of your system report. I suspect your hardware is a little to low-end. Thank you.

I'm having the same problem either watching a youtube video or a video on desktop. I have a Dell mini 1010 and have had problems using VLC media player in the past using win 7 and xp. VLC is a great media player and I have four of the dell mini 1010 computers. So I would like to try to figure out why it's not working on the 1010s

All the reading and settings so far has not fixed the issue. I'm new to Linux Lite and any help would be greatly appreciated...

Okay not sure how I came across this or what  the command even does to make the sound work but this is what I did to fix my stuttering choppy sound on an Asus z97-i plus motherboard with a  Realtek ALC892 audio chipset.

1) open a terminal and type sudo leafpad /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

2)once open scroll to the bottom and type  options snd-hda-intel vid=8086 pid=8ca0 snoop=0

3)Save and exit restart computer no more sound or stuttering issues

Link to the info found here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2230750

Now I am very happy hope this helps someone as it took a lot of reading and searching to find a solution to my problem.

That's great!

To help others, please mark the Best Answer of this feed or mark it as Solved.  I think there should be a Solved hyperlink in the bottom left corner.  It might help to do a Ctrl-F and search for the word Solved.  It's not as obvious the first time.

This might also help:

Installing Realtek ALC892 Audio Driver on Linux Mint
http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/1236

You might also want to try Menu->Settings->Install Drivers and see if you get any options in the Additional Drivers tab.

No I have not installed restricted extras, and yes I have visited the sites you linked above. What are restricted extras? And are they okay to install in the us? Not sure I try to run only the minimum restricted drivers on my sytem. But I did not see my intel audio devece on the support list on ubuntu .

P.s. Thank you all for the quick responses, I love Linux and do not want to go back to window's so as soon as I get this little hickup solved I will be golden!

Don't want to assume:

Have you run updates?
Have you installed restricted extras?

Have you visited the link I sent earlier (https://www.linuxliteos.com/manual/hardware.html#sound)?  It leads to other seemingly pertinent sites like the following:
     https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting
     https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/HDAGeneric

This may be a good start:  https://www.linuxliteos.com/manual/hardware.html#sound

Also providing the following may help:
  • Type of media you are using?  Physical CD or audio file like an MP3?
  • The app you're using to play audio?
