Title: [SOLVED] Sound Delay
Post by: pmralbuquerque on September 15, 2014, 12:32:05 PM
Hi,
I'm a new user of Linux Lite and liking it a lot, but I have a problem.
I'm using an old Acer Aspire 3630 laptop, very slow and outdated, but good enough for what I use it for, which is basically a media center, connected to a big TV and a 5.1 sound system.
Everything works just fine if playing mp3 files, using the internal cdrom drive, etc.
The problem is when I try to watch a movie from an external hard drive. The sound is completely of sync with the images.
I use SMPlayer.
Can some one help, please? :-[

Maybe because the video has to be read from the external drive which means the data has to go through the USB cable and then processed from the PC. Try to do this from the internal hard drive of the laptop and see if there is a difference.

Well that works but it's not practical to copy a movie to the hard drive each time.
Isn't there other solution?
Regards.

What speed is the hard drive, and have you tried VLC, smplayer is a little heavy.

I have no idea. I'll try VLC, but until now, never could get it to work. Always hangs, in my three different machines. :(

I'll be in touch. Thank you. :)

Regards.

Maybe QMPlay2 media player will work for you.

Hello!

Are they also slow from a flash drive? If not, you could use a 64GB flash drive to hold 12 4.7GB (DVD) movies.

If they play OK on your internal HD but not from the external one, then your problem has to do with the data transfer rate of your external hard drive. This is especially an issue with REALLY old PCs that uses USB 1.1.

If you ARE using USB 1.1 and have a CardBus slot available, you can add two USB 2.0 ports with a PCMCIA USB 2.0 interface...
