Hi gs, did you look through the Sound section under Hardware in the Manual, was it of any help? Cheers.

Yes, went through all with no results, got sent to out dated ubuntu forum, still no results.

Have a read through here - http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/AD1981B see if it is of any help.

Volume keys on the keyboard worked. I now have sound. Although I Feel Pretty Dumb. But thanks, everything works fine now and is very fast on this old machine. Much better than windows.

Awesome gs, good stuff. Can you please tell us how you did this so that others may benefit? Thank you :)

Simple, just read the thinkwiki you recommended and although it did not name the model thinkpad that I have, I decided to try it any way. The thinkwiki said that the volume controls on the keyboard are seperate from the software volume controls. So I just kept raising the volume with the keyboard until I began to hear something. Still had to raise all volume levels, but now have good sound. Hope this helps. Thanks for your support.
