Update error log - archive canonical no release
#6
(09-20-2024, 04:49 PM)I installed Firefox and Discord as soon as I installed the OS. I used the "GDebi Package Installer" for both Firefox and and Discord.  When I initially installed the system I chose the Dark Theme and at the time I did not realize I set myself up.  When the dark theme is selected the update screen at the end of the update process does not flip the text color so I could not read it. I went through several iterations where I thought I was running an update and I assumed all went well.  I could not read the error message because of those circumstances.  I downloaded the Ubuntu version of the graphics software at this URL: https://www.amd.com/en/support/download/...vers.htmlI ran the update indicator after clearing the tick from the canonical archives ( 2 lines )and it seemed to work.  I have no idea how those archives were created.stevef Wrote: If you can tell us when the problem started, it will help clarify what needs to be done.
Were Firefox and Discord installed through Package Manager ?
Was the Radeon driver software added before or after and were updates ok between ?
It looks like the Radeon software is for earlier versions of Ubuntu, so it is possible the archive repositories got added when you installed the GPU drivers.
Do you have a link to the instructions you followed for installing Linux Radeon drivers from AMD so that we can check please ?
In the short term, it should be possible to get updates working again by suspending the canonical archive.
Click Menu and begin typing 'Software' into the search box.
When you see 'Software & Updates' offered as a choice click on it.
In the window that opens, select the 'Other Software' Tab
You should be able to locate the canonical archive in the list.
If it is not there let us know.
De-select it by removing the tick against it, enter your password if asked and then click 'Close'
Follow the instructions to refresh the software update cache.
The canonical archive should now be inactive, so try running update/upgrade again and let us know.
