Updating drivers
#1
When I finish installing on various donated computers I have always checked "Update Drivers", but other than one computer I have left the circle "Do not use the device" checked as it describes the device as and says the following:

Unknown:Unknown
this device is not working
O Using Processor microcode firmware for Intel CPIs from intel-microcode (proprietary)
O(this one has the blue dot) Do not use the device.

Should I be clicking on the upper option (using Processor...)?

I wasn't sure if I should be "accepting" and thus applying any and ALL suggested driver changes?

thanks,
Janet

Hi [member=7067]JanetBiggar[/member]
It's completely safe whether you choose or not to use the propietary driver. The 'Do not use the device' doesn't mean you are not using the device, it simply means you aren't using it with the available proprietary driver. I also came across this doubt when installed LL and checked for drivers to found that the propietary driver for my AMD CPU was not being used. In any case, I tried using the propietary driver and saw no difference regarding improvement/performance.
Hope this helps! Smile
