Error after installation on an old Windows PC - grub error 32
#1
Hello,

I installed Linux Lite on an old Windows 7 on a new SSD drive.
When finishing the installation I got an error message (see here: https://limewire.com/d/7Cp9Z#vlHyKnfmzL).
Can someone guide me to identify what went wrong please?

Also the wifi is not working, I got the message "the device does not support Access Point Mode"
Is there a documentation to help me work this out (maybe a pilot problem?)?

Thank you very much!

Hello,
This may be a known problem in which an update appears to fail but actually completes behind the scenes.
I've moved the thread to the Updates section.

Please can you open a terminal by pressing 'Ctrl' 'Alt' and 'T' together.
Type or paste in this command followed by enter.  This will refresh the update cache.
Code:
sudo apt-get update | tee ~/"$(date +"%Y_%m_%d_%T")-apt-get-update.txt"
Enter your password if asked.

Then enter this command which will calculate if any programs need upgrading and if so, it will ask if you wish to apply them.  You can answer 'n' if asked, we are interested in what upgrades the system reports being as required.

Code:
sudo apt-get upgrade | tee ~/"$(date +"%Y_%m_%d_%T")-apt-get-upgrade.txt"

Each command should produce a text file in your home directory in which the screen output is saved.
After running the two commands please review the two text files and paste the results back here.

For the wifi problem please open another thread.

Thank you

You're welcome.

If if read it correctly, that output shows there is nothing further to do at the moment, so the previous update/upgrade worked despite throwing the error message.

Some people may be reluctant to download a file from a hosting site.
You can post your text directly into the thread.

Thanks for the explanation, all good if the upgrade worked well!
Sorry for the file, I was afraid the message would be too long, but I'll post it directly next time Smile
