Issue downloading Updates Google Chrome
#1

Hello,  I am new to Linux and Linux Lite is my first Linux experience.

I am having a problem downloading the updates for Linux Lite, when my computer is about half finished downloading the updates it stops and flashes the error message of  "couldn't fetch the package cache information lists."  How do I get it to continue the download, so it can update?

Thanks.

Hi nic, and welcome!

What's the output of the following terminal command (open Terminal and execute):

sudo apt update

Sorry for seeming stupid and preferring Linux - I just don't know any better.

nic,

The fix is simple. You are using Google Chrome 32 bit which is not longer supported or maintained.

You want to remove chrome and use an alternative browser such as Chromium, Firefox, etc. Google Chrome is only supported and maintained x64 Bit installations.

Either case, remove Google Chrome PPA from your repository list:

Open Software & Updates from your start Menu and browse to Other Software tab... delete or uncheck "http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/...", click Close and try to update again.

Let us know how that goes.

The Opera web browser (which I believe is now based on Chromium) is also available for 32-bit, and I believe it will support Netflix.  If not, Firefox is slated to support Netfilx in the near Future.
