We know there aren't official Xerox Linux drivers for the P265.
We could try the brlaser drivers mentioned in post 2, but it's got to be worth a try with Postscript as there appears to be a Xerox Generic PPD dated 2022 which is for Linux.

Check this link and if you are happy, download the zip file

Unzip it somewhere and then use the 'Choose file' option to select the xerox ppd file.

Maybe don't bother. I just read that the PPD is for a limited number of models, not including yours.

On closer look, in the 'Add Printer' screenshot you posted there are several entires which are flagged as (recommended).
On the assumption it puts recommended items near the top of the list, personally I would try the P205 first and see what happens. Then maybe other entries marked (recommended) going through the list systematically.

If none of the 'recommended' FX models work, try choosing Brother under 'Select Another Make' and look for Brother HL L2630D

None of the "recommended" drivers worked
I could not find your suggested "Brother HL L2630D" But there WAS one "HL L2360D" .
I tried that and it appears to work flawlessly! 

Thanks you very much for your patience and expertise.
I now have a system that I can use.  

Now to iron out 1001 other, less important, quirks.

I think we were a bit lucky with the result - from what I read the Xerox product is essentially a re-badged Brother.
Brother have a fair record of providing Linux support for their products.
