Instead of using xpad, use xpadneo. With Xpadneo, you may turn off mouse controls and get better support.
Go to Settings > Turn off mouse control when a button is pressed in xpad.
Open the config.txt file in xpad on Linux, and change the "mouse emulation" setting to false.
