Purging and Install procedures outlined above do not solve problem. HTOP gives a lot of data - unsure how to copy/upload this for inspection.
The “cleared saved sessions” route appears to have worked
Also pleased that data originally on TB (emails etc.) before the problem have not been lost, even after all the various options above that were since tried.

BTW to clarify, LL2.0 32 bit, original kernel (3.13?), additional software – catfish, cleaner – added, and updates added regularly. Default layout.
