wireless networks "device not ready"
#10
If the wifi didn't work when you tried the live versions of LL7.4 and 7.2 it was a brave decision to go ahead and install it.

The fact that you were able to find commands earlier to make it work with 7.x indicates the best way forward.
Try to locate the commands again. If you can remember anything about them or the kind of searches you were doing it might help.

Otherwise, realistic workarounds include
1) Use an earlier version of LL.  LL6 is supported until April 2027.
2) Obtain a different wifi adapter USB which is compatible with LL7.x
3) Carry on without wifi

Trying to fix the problem directly rather than use a workaround is more involved.  You'd need to find out more about what is happening.  The inference from what you've found so far is that the drivers may be different.  Try these commands under the working and failing set ups

Unfortunately for some reason at the moment the forum is blocking me from posting the commands that show the driver and kernel information directly - the commands are readily searchable. If you can't find them, let us know and I'll try again.

Make a note of the wifi driver name and driver version information and the kernel version in each case.
The best hope is that a search for bug reports of a similar nature finds something is in progress and a fix is in the pipeline.

If you can't find an existing report you are faced with starting one.
There is also the possibility to attempt to manipulate the drivers.

Found a different command to get the kernel version which the forum doesn't block

The commands are
Code:
sudo lshw -C network
Code:
uname -r
stevef
