Thank you, the context helps when trying to understand the problem.
I looked through the hardware DB earlier to see how many systems with the same wifi hardware had been posted.
That was the only one out of 94000 that came up. I did wonder if it was you who'd posted it. The fact that your hardware is unique in the DB is a worry.
The three commands you found and ran to get it working are very interesting. If you can remember anything about them or the kind of searches you were doing to find them it might help.
All terminal commands are logged and it would have been possible to recall them, but it seems you did a re-install after you got it working. If you have definitely re-installed the system since running the mystery commands the log will have been wiped, but if not we can look there.
I understand from your description that the wifi probably didn't work when booting from 7.4 live media. Please can you boot from 7.4 Live media again and confirm ? The quickest check is probably to boot, allow it to settle then try to attach to your local wifi. Please let us know the result.
Are you willing to try booting Live versions of earlier Linux Lite (e.g. 6.x or even 5.x) ?
Are you able to buy/borrow some kind of USB wifi adaptor ?
