I noticed though that when the adapter is connected to the USB hub I normally have all my devices on, and then the Macbook connected to that hub - as opposed to having the Ethernet connection plugged directly into one of its two USB ports - the problem doesn't arise.
In any case, it's not a huge deal. That laptop is now a back-up and quasi-Chromebook, not meant to be on a LAN cable. It's a minor irritation.
