fresh install can't update

[OBJuan]

I am running Lite 4.6 on two machines, both upgraded from 4.4, one is able to update the other cannot ;
Both confusers are on the same wireless to the same router;
One computer (the one I am using) is an HP Cpomaq 6200 pro Intel core i5-2500 with 8gb ddr3 ram
no problem getting updates on the HP-6200
Other computer is a 2005 vintage HP Pavilion a1646 intel core 2 with 8 gb ddr2 ram (buckeye mobo)
This 1646 does have  difficulty. When I tell it to update I get this response:
"Install Updates could not fetch the package cache information lists.

I have tried selecting a different mirror but get the same "No fetch". Had a dog like that once ....
What should I do ?
