I am using a usb wifi adpater to connect to my router but not sure if this is the issue or not.  Any suggestions how to fix this?  Thanks.

May want to post the make/model of the adapter to help point in the right direction??
Perhaps the output of:
Code:
inxi -Fzx
Code:
lsusb

Depending on make/age ... I've found older kernels have better results with the older hardware.. My stuff works well with 4.4.
Its easy to trial.. Lite Tweaks - - Kernel Installer.. Can also remove....
Select desired kernel - install - reboot -- Choose advanced in Grub, select kernel and boot..
