Back to LL 4.0 suggestions...
1) could something be done towards external monitor plug-play? With MS Win 7 (and presumably 10) we can grab our laptops, unplug, everything is auto-reset to built-in display. Ditto when we re-connect to ext. monitor.
2) there's some discussion above re what to provide by default in LL download.
I wonder could thoughts turn to a menu of downloads, eg starting with "Light Linux Lite" for the basic home user - browser / email / photo manage / Writer / Calc / (there's more in LibreOffice, but buttons the for latter two) Backup / Updates / (other?) - these given with large icons/"button" on desktop. Might attract first computer users too, attractive for teachers in communities etc.
Of course all the repo/Lite software will be accessible too, if wanted later.
Maybe not for 4.0, but future?
