Don't know if the best thing to do is to attache it to this chain where the original posters problem with updating was solved, but I have an comparable problem. So perhaps it is related or can be solved with a few magic words only.
This morning I downloaded the current 32-bit ISO and used it to install to a pre-created partition on a multi-partition netbook (many trial distro's there). Did this from the livecd booted and after re-install LiteOS came up without a hesitation on that partition. So I followed the first instruction of the 3 instructions given at bootup (nice handhelding touch, no not nice: Super!). But I ran into a problem that not all repo's could be reached.
Looked over here, stumbled on this post and decided to see if I could solve it with the information provided here. So I started Synaptic instead of your fine tool because I have a "little" bit more experience with that standard Debian tool. Did a Reload, but got a different complaint there. It reads as follows:
