Thanks for the reply.

1) What particular machine you are installing to
Dell Vostro 400

2) What other OS is on the machine
Win 7 is on sda
I'm installing to sdb with 'choose something else' and putting the Linux boot on sdb

3) What is the install medium... USB or DVD
Live DVD

4) Is this Virtual or HDD direct install
HDD

5) Is this a UEFI situation
BIOS

Also, I checked the boxes for 'encrypt my home folder' and 'install multimedia codecs and stuff'
