Doh! Sorry to have wasted anyones time - brain freeze! There are TWO connect buttons in Remmina, one for a selected connection and one associated with a text box. The latter one does not work, the first one does. I usually use the left button under the menu bar but for some unknown reason started to use the other one which does not work. So Remmina still DOES work in LL3.4. :
