Okay. All is well with the LL end. Follow the help manual exactly concerning configuring LL for sharing, with the following exceptions for use with Windows10 home.
1) workgroup should = HomeGroup
)You must set up a HomeGroup in windows10 Home.
)If you join the HomeGroup with an administrator account from the windows machine, it gives you administrative access to all accessible files on the windows10 computer, depending on the editors and software you have installed in LL When prompted for user from LL share, login with that account and password.
)Make Homegroup a private network in Windows10. In advanced sharing settings open the private dialogue and allow sharing. You can disable Windows firewall for the private network if all private network users are trusted. Logins and passwords will still be expected.
)If sharing doesn't work immediately, it may take quite a while for windows to locate and update the necessary (hours for some) files to run smbshare, as it does not come properly packaged in the original home edition of windows10. Leave both computers on and BE PATIENT. I started the process around midnight last night, and went to bed. Time stamps in windows updates show the last of the config at about two in the morning.
)Make sure the bandwidth limiter is turned off in the pay for Internet dialogue in Windows10 home, or it could take a lot longer.
)Most of the changes took effect immediately for me in LL, and I could access the windows files once the group situation was corrected. The windows end took a lot longer.
)Finally if you have not done so already, install Libreoffice for windows to your windows10 home machine. This eases many file compatibility issues once you change "open with application" preferences on the windows desktop to appropriate Libreoffice apps.
)Most of this is GUI work, with only a few simple terminal commands initially. You may have to run troubleshooter on HomeGroup for windows to find what it needs to download, depending on how updated your Windows10 home is. PATIENCE is an ironically necessary thing with MS, considering the thrust of their public philosophy is to provide clickers with instant gratification.
)You may have a problem with clock syncing in windows. Linux gives you a five minute leeway, but windows10 home gives you nothing.
