If you're still interested to make the Linux Lite installation work I'd recommend two steps:
1. Do run the md5sum check!
2. Use a different method/app to create your LiveUSB device. Jerry is recently recommending Etcher. I'm generally using UNetbootin which is available in the repositories. I had situations that the LiveUSB creation went through without error message but installation of the OS failed, even if the Live session seemed to run without problems. After a second go at the creation all went well.

Linux Lite won't disappoint you. It's one of the best distros out there for Windows converts as well as Linux veterans who just want to work.
