When you install any Ubuntu based distro, it also installs Guest Additions.
Why..??
because you maybe installing it into a VM, and having the Guest additions already installed means it is likely to run out of the box.(No pun intended

There was three updates for V4.3.XX for Guest components, normally these should not create any issues, because they are only there in the event of this being a VM Guest.
That is why when you are actually running an Ubuntu based Guest you need to keep it up-to-date, and matching the Host, along with matching extensions pack in the Host.(Thanks torreydale

If you are not running VBox, you can remove them via synaptic.
Not sure why this problem occurred now, there have been many updates, the last one only a month or so ago.
