Personally I had been a windows xp user and when it was announced that Microsoft was discontinuing support for xp I decided the time to switch to an open source operating system was good. I tried Ubuntu 12.04 first and Debian and a few others before finding Linux Lite. Ubuntu had Unity which I really don't like, I prefer a desktop environment like XFCE. Debian felt like pulling teeth every time I wanted to change something. I tried LXDE based distros but they didn't have the ease of customization I was looking for. Most of the other distros that I tried were not intuitive and it was easier to find a more intuitive one than to read through countless pages on the internet to try to figure out how to do what I wanted to do with my computer. So when I found Linux Lite it was at version 2.0 and I have been with it every day since. It just works.
