same problem here, turned on computer after a week, tried to install updates, and got this message

Make sure nothing else is running like Synaptic, that has prompted for a password. Close those and retry...

If still not, reboot and try an update after logging in..

E: Unable to acquire the dpkg frontend lock (/var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend), is another process using it?
