I use the noatime parameter on my SSD - have done for years. Some distros do it automatically. I think LL takes the correct approach by not messing with fstab.

I'm not sure if you are suggesting that because the key is USB 3.0 then you should be getting USB 3.0 performance. If the port is USB2.0 then that is what you get. The benchmark info about encryption...
