systemd-bootchart plus pybootchartgui will at least allow you to see what's happening in the boot process - and how long each bit is taking. May help. |

I use the noatime parameter on my SSD - have done for years. Some distros do it automatically. I think LL takes the correct approach by not messing with fstab. |

I'm not sure if you are suggesting that because the key is USB 3.0 then you should be getting USB 3.0 performance. If the port is USB2.0 then that is what you get.

First of all the 620 has USB 2.0 only - so that's a bottleneck.
Second all the traffic is going back and forth on the one key - and all with an encryption overhead.

Depending on the number of pics you are working on, why not just use Thunar to view thumbnails - use the Zoom in to make them big enough and just right click op... |

In your original post you said that you installed from DVD. That implies that LL must be able to see the DVD when it is booting from it.
