Update: I was still having issues, so I reverted to my original Timeshift backup taken at installation last year.  I had to reinstall some apps, but the backup made things even better.

[member=9039]stevef[/member] , I cleared some stuff via Lite Tweaks before.  I went through it again and rebooted.  It's working now.  I'll keep an eye on that /tmp folder going forward.  Thanks.
