I would stay away from using BB as root straight away; it is a powerful tool, and caution had better be exercised.

Simple Scan can be made to work better via Document > Preferences: Increase dpi Resolution(s), set Quality to max.
With presets only the results may well be mediocre. |

1) Open Task Manager to check on CPU capacity and running processes.
2) Open Terminal (CTRL + ALT + T), type: sensors
Temperatures should come up, together with critical limit values for guidance.
