Linux Lite 5.0 Final Released

<< < (11/12) > >>

TMG1961:
I downloaded the iso file several times. Did the md5sum check and its ok all the time. Used 6 different usb sticks but i keep getting the error “Something went wrong. If it is compressed image, please check that the archive is not corrupted”. after etcher finished flashing the drive. Any idea what i can do to get an error free flash? I also tried different versions of Etcher, but all with the same error message.

Installation om my new computer went really smooth. My old computer could not install it, yet it did install 5.0 RC1 with no problems.
My computer dual boots with Windows 10. I use LL for personal/hobby use. Windows at the University.

What I really like.
- That the iso file fits on a 3" DVD
- No screen tearing, unlike 4.8, where I had to google a solution for that
- Simple scan now works over network instead of USB cable.
- The selection of software is really nice
- My laptop's keyboard functions are nearly identical to those in Windows 10.
- Beautiful, uncluttered and holistic layout
- Windows/WINE applications can more easily be added to the panel.
- MP3 files now show the embedded artwork, instead of the icon
- 5.0 is generally a lot more user friendly to new users of Linux, than 4.8.

Things I noticed
- I simply couldn't get my HP3630 printer to work. Not a dealbreaker, I'll just print in Windows 10.
- When you use the brightness keys, a bell is showed, instead of the usual sun.
- The update icon in the taskbar is coloured, but should be the same colour as the rest. Also, I'd like to remove it, if possible.
- The icons on the desktop are named different, compared to the menus. It is easy to rename them, though.
- There is a not a Lite Upgrade in the Settings menu (yet).
- In the newly installed GRUB 2.04 the OS is listed as Ubuntu.

- I simply couldn't get my HP3630 printer to work. Not a dealbreaker, I'll just print in Windows 10. Shouldn't be difficult, full support has been around for some time for that model.
- When you use the brightness keys, a bell is showed, instead of the usual sun. I'll have to check that on my HP laptop.
- The update icon in the taskbar is coloured, but should be the same colour as the rest. Also, I'd like to remove it, if possible. Deliberate contrast to highlight the importance of keeping your system up to date.
- The icons on the desktop are named different, compared to the menus. It is easy to rename them, though. Given our target audience are Windows users, the naming approach is accurate.
- There is a not a Lite Upgrade in the Settings menu (yet). Why would there be in the first version? It would make no sense at all to include it until it has a use.
- In the newly installed GRUB 2.04 the OS is listed as Ubuntu. See release announcement, for this is mentioned.

Thanks for your feedback.

Used Balena-Etcher without issues.
Did notice that the SanDisk usb device i use was always the best for such things.

Btw, kudos to the dev!!
Had tried L.L. a while back but this latest iteration is superduper!
As a fan of recent KDE versions, might have to re-consider XFCE...

Did have issues with Dropbox this a.m., but maybe it was because it's Monday.
Downloaded directly from their site not long ago.
Even if it said that it was available on L.L., persisted at installing the app and everything works well now.

The basic selection of apps and those installed are quite nice! :)

Hope to be in this for a while.

p.s. now if i can find a good file content search tool...

I have had trouble using Etcher to create the bootable USB, twice it finished saying something went wrong and ended up with a USB stick that wouldn't boot.  In the end I used Unetbootin, downloaded and ran the 64bit binary to create it by following instructions on their website.

Anyone else having/had the same problems with using Etcher?
