64bit OS (32-bit on Samsung netbook) installed in Legacy mode on MBR-formatted SSDs (except pi which uses a micro SDHC card):
2017 - Raspberry pi 3B (4cores) ~ [email protected] - LibreElec, used for upgrading our Samsung TV (excellent for the task)
2012 - Lenovo G580 2689 (2cores; 4threads] ~ [email protected] - LL3.8/Win8.1 dual-boot (LL working smoothly)
2011 - Samsung NP-N145 Plus (1core; 2threads) ~ Intel Atom [email protected] - LL 3.8 32-bit (64-bit too 'laggy')
2008 - Asus X71Q (2cores) ~ Intel [email protected] - LL4.6/Win8.1 dual-boot, LL works fine with kernel 4.15
2007 - Dell Latitude D630 (2cores) ~ Intel [email protected] - LL4.6, works well with kernel 4.4; 4.15 doesn't work

I've installed LL4, by using the previous home folder of my LL3.6. Obviously it has my old settings, which also means the old desktop look.

Hi, we don't recommend that approach at all due to our highly modified system.
Noted...but i have been doing it like that since series 2, and never had any (big) problems. Before I needed to delete a folder keeping the old theming settings, but can't remember which one. Can you just point me into a direction, please? I'll try and figure it out myself from there.

Hi Guys

First post here, congrats with the new release.

I've installed LL4, by using the previous home folder of my LL3.6. Obviously it has my old settings, which also means the old desktop look. How do i use the new icons/theme, what folder/files do i need to delete?

Thanks

I tried LL 4.0 again, now i installed it next to LL 3.8, booted fine the first time. Then i ran update, enabled trim and did the purge virtualbox.
Then i rebooted the laptop and couldnt get it to boot into LL4.0 anymore, left it for almost an hour but it just refused to boot. LL 3.8 boots fine.
So i just removed LL 4.0 completely and now back to running LL 3.8 as the main OS on laptop.

So guess LL 4.0 isnt for me. Will have to do with 3.8 as long as it is supported.

UPDATE _Lite Tweaks - Could not get ZRam, Preload apps and TLP to load ( separately)  Error message came up

Just tested - ZRam, Preload work perfect here, no issues. Try one at a time. TLP - I'll have to try later on a laptop.

FURTHER UPDATE:   This morning switched on Fuji Si1520  and ran Lite tweaks. Zram, Preload apps, and TLP   All loaded successfully.   Putting previous down to something interfering last night?  Everything running smoothly today.

The errno5 error is solved. I used dd command to create the usb drive but that gave the error. Used etcher and all ok.
However i do get error messages during boot. They are
error: no suitable video mode found.
error: no video mode activated.
error: no video mode activated.

Also the bootup time is 3 times as long as with 3.8 took 1,5 minute to boot
Update: Boot time is ok now, i removed the virtualbox support additions. Now only have problem with the trim on ssd. After last step of enabling trim i get this message: mv: cannot stat '/etc/cron.weekly/fstrim': No such file or directory
Also after reboot there isnt a trimlog.

After a clean install of LL 4.0 Final on a Dell Inspiron 1501 still having the same issues as detailed in this thread

https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/suggestions-and-feedback/possible-kernel-problems-with-ubuntu-18-04-and-latest-kernel/

The laptop goes thru the motions for a rebootshutdown but after stopping services and unmounting hdd it won't poweroff.

I've installed ukuu (Ubuntu Kernel Update Utility) and managed to find an older kernel v4.6.2 which actually works. I will keep testing kernels and update on the original thread to avoid hijacking this one.

Otherwise, there's only one "annoyance" I've seen so far, when doing updates, after downloading the list of updates and clicking to install, there is no progress bar for the actual download/install and the only way I knew the process was finished was when the hdd indicator light on the laptop stopped flickering.

Anyway great distro :)
