I just did an upgrade to the latest version of Firefox, now it crashes every time I load it. In fact, Thunderbird and Chrome also crash on startup.
Anyone else having this issue?

Thanks in advance.
Dear Derickam,

Welcome to our community. I never experience any issue upgrading Firefox, Chrome or Thunderbird. Maybe you change any configuration on PPA repositories?

Please let me know,

Completely left Windows for Linux in July 2016.

I have LL 3.13.0-24 can I upgrade to the newest system, can I download and do an upgrade or new install.
3.13.0-24 sounds like your kernel; yes that can be updated but depending on your system newer kernels are not always better. You'll want to be cautious.

To check LL version type in terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) pressing enter after each command
Code: [Select]
cat /etc/llver
LL 3.4 is the most recent anything less can be upgraded if in the same series (3.1 can be upgraded to 3.4 - if 2.x series will require a new install)..

To check kernel version
Code: [Select]
uname -r

@paul1149,
Good to know.  I can think of someone's machine I'd like to try the zRam on, too.  YouTube issues, as well, on that one.

@torreydale , that wasn't my machine, but I have updated now.

Yes, that was youtube, which had been a problem on the netbook.

@paul1149,

Two things.  If you upgrade your main computer to LL 3.4, please update your forum profile to reflect that.  Secondly, by videos in Chromium playing better, are you referring to YouTube videos or something else?

I've upgraded last Sunday and have given 3.4 a good workout, on the things I use.
I do a lot of post processing and darktable and RawTherapee both seem to run faster, with no problems  :)
I haven't delved into the inner workings yet, when I do, 'if' I find a problem I will let you know.

So a big thanks to all involved  :) :) :)

Keith.

I just upgraded a Lenovo S10 netbook that was struggling to breathe even on 3.2. I must say the performance is notably better. Whether that's the inherent code or the new ram drive, I don't know, but videos on Chromium play perfectly now. Great job.

One suggestion: I love the Welcome screen, both the idea and the way it's implemented, but I think the check marks on the left column items is confusing, as it gives the impression that the tasks are completed.

3.4 is working great for me but Lite Desktop Widget is totally missing. Menu, Settings, Session and Startup, Application Autostart doesn't list it. Menu search shows nothing and Synaptic doesn't list it. Can you provide any info?
As mentioned earlier, this was a new install over 2.8 and not an upgrade from 3.2.

Hmmm... you can manually add it then:

Menu, Settings, Session and Startup, Application Autostart, +Add

Name: Lite Desktop Widget
Description: Display system information on the Desktop
Command: bash -c "sleep 5; ~/.conky/start"
https://unlockforus.com

Sorry for seeming stupid and preferring Linux - I just don't know any better.

You're running a web server? I see apache running. I see clamav running too just to name a few. No issue here, you're just running a lot of of things in the background that you've installed. Also be weary of web browsers that claim to be fast. The trade off is that they are memory hogs.

It's a test web server (probably forgot to switch it completely off -_-). Already had that applications on 3.2 (i upgraded) and no ram issues thats why it seemed strange to me! I'm going to uninstall some applications to see whats going on! Thanks for your tips, have a good one!
