So after testing and looking over everything why is LL 2.2 sticking with the 3.13 kernel instead of going with a later tested LL kernel? like 3.15 or 3.17?I mean if it is going to be the updated version of LL why not push the kernel up to a later one?

The kernel released with the 14.04 LTS, in this case 3.13.0-24, is more reliable with the proprietary video drivers.

This release could be released as is. Don't let the "beta" nametag fool you from this release! Great job Valtam!

One thing I would like to mention is that the 32-bit torrent I had trouble downloading from. KTorrent (KDE's torrent client on my other *unnamed distro* Linux laptop) reported that it received some "invalid" information from the Bittorrent tracker URL. The 64-bit version did download perfectly fine. Could have been just my connection though (it's 3G as it's the only thing available in my area, other than "slower than Molasses" Dial-Up).

I am sure the developers here appreciate all you users inputs. And at MonkeyMan. Don't compare your your short stint
using linux to my years of experience. It is like learning a new language. Like from English to Mandarin or Spanish or whatever.
It just takes practice like anything in life. You will get it. My education only goes up to GED. So I can be pretty dumb also.

So any testing  input from you will also probably be very much appreciated. At least by me. It is how I learn new things.

Happy Trails, Rok

Hi Rok,

All noted, I will try pass on whatever I can, with all my "goofs" along the way I have probably installed LL about 14+ times.(across 3 Machines)
I just installed it in a VM(Virtualbox) this morning to use as test instance, all appears to be working... BUT
I have an error in the dmesg.log file which is rather alarming that I need to investigate, a 2nd re-install is the same..??
Code: [Select]
[5.881492] vboxguest: module verification failed: signature and/or required key missing - tainting kernelI have not installed GuestAdditions yet... Not sure though if that is the issue.??

Hi,

I have an HP-Laptop also.. with integrated SD Card, Never really used, but noticed your comment.
I found an SD Card and tried it from a
Normal Boot, Shows straight away on desktop mounted,

Thanks for testing and posting your results. My situation was different and I as usual did my description in shorthand without going into much detail. My SD came out of my camera taking pictures of my desktop. I guess I could use this Linux Lite 2.0 laptop to edit my post later to upload the pics offsite and post them in that post.

My HP is a Desktop Computer in the motorcycle shop. The SD adapter was a external usb card adapter. I plugged it in after a live boot and was running live to see if I would get lucky and it would automount in the Thunar file manager on the left panel.

fdisk -l showed me it made it that far where the computer could see it. blkid would not even complete a readout after I typed that in.
I am skilled enough to run as root in a live session inside of lxterminal. There were no directories in /media other than cdrom.
If you look at my inxi readout. You will see NTFS, and other partitions on the 1 drive in it. They did not mount on boot of live session
and some are ext3 partitions and others are xfs partitions.

Since I do a bit of testing for Anti, Bitjam, Dave, and others  at AntiX. I do not panic or worry at all because I realize the kernel on a distro interacts on different hardware and hardware scenarios differently. All I can do is gather info and post my findings with no judgment/attiude interjected. Just like I try to do here. But my scooter tramp style can be a little hard to stomach for some.

For grins I tried
Code: [Select]
eject to eject the plop cd as demo/user. Nope. No joy there. So I tried as root user in lxterminal
Code: [Select]
eject /dev/sr0But received the loctl error. Like I said. I was just screwing around to see what I could do while in a live session.
My 2.0 installs are running just fine. So I won't be installing 2.2 anyways. My post was more for a proof of concept that
Linux Lite 2.2 will boot on usb 1.1 with help from a PLOP cd. That was the main goal.

Update... Feel rather silly.  :-[
Did some Googling... I must have formatted and not removed it correctly at some time.??
So reformatted, un-mounted re-mounted and voila... Read/Write with me the own

In My case. The camera formats the card so we see another variable in a testing post. Way to go.  ;D

I really appreciate your post/test results though. It shows that on a different HP. That results will vary a tad different.
You internal card reader picked up different than my external usb card reader. That is what testing is all about.
Sharing info. Showing what works and what does not work. On certain hardware and varied scenarios.

5 mb/s via torrent.  Nice and fast.  Since I just installed 2.0 on my SSD, I might as well install 2.2 instead.  Since I'm probably the dumbest Linux guy here, I probably won't be much help but maybe my simple questions/suggestions will spawn better and more articulate questions/thoughts/suggestions.

Wonderful beta release. One suggestion -- for the Install Additional Software dialog box, could we have a "Select All/None" toggle check mark or button (perhaps left-aligned at the bottom on the same vertical plane as the Quit and Install command buttons.)
Thanks again,
Glen

I've noticed that  Date & Time is not in the settings.
Here is how to add Date & Time to the settings
Code: [Select]
gksudo leafpad /usr/share/applications/system-config-date.desktopChange Categories=... to
Code: [Select]
Categories=XFCE;GTK;Settings;DesktopSettings;X-XFCE-SettingsDialog;X-XFCE-SystemSettings;or if you want it in the Hardware section
Code: [Select]
Categories=XFCE;GTK;Settings;DesktopSettings;X-XFCE-SettingsDialog;X-XFCE-HardwareSettings;Now it will show in the settings. Open it with
Code: [Select]
xfce4-settings-manager

Even though it is mounted, It is always mounted with "Owner" of "ROOT" shows under
Code: [Select]
/media/dave/sdcard1/
Not sure how to make me owner.? "chown" .??

I know this doesn't help you directly, but if I can help.?
==================================
Update... Feel rather silly.  :-[
Did some Googling... I must have formatted and not removed it correctly at some time.??
So reformatted, un-mounted re-mounted and voila... Read/Write with me the owner.

Hi Jerry,

Congrats to you and the team.
I will give it a try "Live Boot"
Having spent quite some time configuring & setting up 2 PC and a Laptop to all be the same on LL2.0
Not sure I'm ready to do them all again so soon.

ps
SourceForge shows 6635 downloads this week,
I assume this is all variants

Anything on 2.2 that is different from 2.0 you can easily install if you haven’t already. The bulk of the changes are in the form of software. re. Sourceforge, yes all variants. Existing 2.0 users are fine, remember, LL is aimed at new users to linux, they will benefit from installing 2.2
