Well, I respect your point of view Mr.Şerban but this is not mainly about you and your worthy effort to spread this brand..

Also I'm not trying to criticize how good or bad the brand Linux Lite were promoted.

Obviously, this is not my native language and I "say" I'm sorry if I "sound" harsh

But, well, talking to this topic ,for example How people this days (2024)
how they promote their own brand?
Even if they are not young ,they use MEMES and some of that "cultural" perhaps more geek point of view

I consider myself someone really boring, also I'm trying to use memes and more of that "culture" in my own projects, but I'm just someone really far for the projects of Linux Lite.

We (every people) could discuss forever but virals, memes ,for example are the main focus of Facebook .I know many people that use only that social media for those hobbies. Believe it or not "formal" serious people know it .https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/world-full-advertisers-memer-tradeflock-crjjc

Hi!

Here are my answers

1. Manpower.
I've been blogging since 2007. Please, belive me, it sucks a lot of time. Let alone complex media content.
I am a YouTuber since 2007. Same as above.
Being both a blogger and a videomaker, sucks about 12 to 19 hours a day.
Even if you are payed to do that, it's a lot of work.
You need to learn a lot, everyday, until you quit or (eventually) die.

2. Cost and ROI (Return Of Investment)
How good are you at accounting? Are you an accountant?
Else, we talk for the sake of talking.
Each step you make with any product (including Linux Lite), cost lots of manpower and lots of money.
Unless you live on a 1,000 tons of gold stack below your feet, it is unlikely you will make to meet loose ends.
Any doubts?
Ask Jerry for how long he dreams to be a full-time Linux Lite lead developer.

3. Strategy & Management.
In order to get where you pointed out, you need a powerful Strategy & Management team.
SMM (Social Media Marketing) is a very fast changing landscape. There are also lots of choices even in the Linux ecosystem, let alone the commercial software world.
As you probably noticed, commercial software is constantly fighting against sharing knowledge and spreading the FOSS.
And in this ever-changing world, you have to make your way through, against all odds.
As I see it, Jerry and the rest of the team, including people in the Forum's staff (= Moderators), are doing a fabulous job!
Having my own Forum, I guess makes me an educated voice to speak.

4. The taughest and ugliest question:
What did YOU do, out of all suggestions presented in your post?
Let's breake it down a little:
How many posts have you read on this Forum?
How many post have you written?
How many blog posts have you writen?
How many tutorials have you written?
How many videos have you made and uploaded on, say, YouTube? (or TikTok, if you like).
And another one:
Are you in the position to point fingers to all the people in this community?

As for me...

I'm old enough and it is likely that someday sooner than later, I'll be gone. That is the way life goes on.
Yet...
From time to time:
- I write posts here;
- I make a video and post it on my YouTube channel;
See here:

- I make a tutorial and post it here;
- I write articles and post them on my own Forum.
- I recommend Linux Lite to people that are interested in a low-cost & high-performance computing solution.
- If this is the case, I install and do a brief presentation of the OS to the new user.

Last, but not least:
I never point fingers to others. If I have any idea (stupid maybe...) I act upon it.
This was the case when I created the Linux Category on my Forum, and so on. See above.
When I have a question, I ask it. Either in the search box (it's amazing how much you can get using it!) or here, where appropriate.

Best regards, Șerban.

Basically any Debian package not deprecated by Debian will run in any current Ubuntu or Debian. A lot of orphaned packages are still installable as well. Release version keys especially in the Ubuntu LTS and Debian Stable versions are mainly to keep users from having installation problems due to the pace of development. For the last three series other than security updates most dependency problems are related to GTK updates, Python updates, or Wayland. We could add non-free firmware to this but generally it is more adaptable i/e older drivers often still work. That said, retro-fitting old Debian packages can be very daunting for inexperienced users.

Linux Lite is meant to be encouraging to new users, in many cases providing specific GUI applications that make using the system simple and intutive for new users from the MS Windows world and users with little or no Linux experience. It certainly succeeds at that. Users can certainly query the forum about any kind of installation error or procedure. In depth queries can get in depth responses. Most new users look for software to do specific computing tasks, but when asking for help don't include what the task is they wish to do, instead asking how to configure software they have already chosen to use for the task. This often leads to a roundabout kind of discourse or a you can't get there from here type of reply. A new forum section here is basically a more minor thing than Serban intimates, but there is no real neccessity for it when such queries can already be made in the instaliing software section i/e "Is anybody running this or that application?"

Hi!

First question you need to answer:
What is the goal you are aiming at with cpufrequtils?
In other words: What do you expect to get from it? What real problem you want to solve using this program?
Defining very clearly what you want to get, increases the available choices to do it.
There are lots of programs that do basically the same thing (serve the same purpose).
Choosing the best, bolis down to what do you know to do with it.
Making it simple:
It is unlikely that you will be able to comb your hair, using your shoes. You need a comb to do that.

As a final touch:
Knowing what to do with whatever piece of software, means:
- How do I install it?
- How do I uninstall it?
- How can I use it?
- What kind of trouble can I get into using it?
- How do I fix the system in case it breaks down?
Still! Nobody knows everything about everything.
It applies to me, to you, to anybody on this Forum, including Jerry.
Yet, each one might have an idea.
In order to gather info, you need a starting point.
This is usually the answer to the initial question:
What is the goal I am  aiming at with ... [package name, or program]
In this case,  cpufrequtils.
Here is what it does:
https://packages.debian.org/sid/cpufrequtils
So, this is why I asked you in the previous message if you know enough to tinker with the Linux Kernel.
If you belive that overclocking your CPU will solve anything, you are on a very dangerous path.
It usually leads to frying either the CPU, the RAM or the mainboard. Sometimes, all three.
Unless you are an expert in hardware testing beyond the factory specifications boundaries. Are you?

Best regards, Șerban!

Hi,

Probably the people of the staff of this forum is not same who devs, publishes in the website of Linux Lite
but Why not promote itself in every Social Media (Discord, tik tok, Instagram, etc)
how good is Linux Lite 6.6?
is it not enough a "mature" Linux project?
Why not at least a Discord with more feedback and grow a lively community...
why not publish memes with info related to Linux?

In my case like any average Linux user of not the latest hardware I always was afraid of Unity, and everytime I thought of any distro similar to Ubuntu it always had Unity and so heavy software, but that's not the case of Linux Lite 6.6 and surprisingly is perhaps the best OS for not the latest computer.

Well, basically there are 2 kind of Linux Lite users one with "minimalistic philosophy" and another with OLD hardware.

And we know when WinXP died Linux grew up with more users,
but this time is "more promising", because nearly at the same time we have some other "events":

-Not only Windows 10 will receive no more support in October 2025, in July 2024 Debian 11 will also "die out". Context, Debian 12 is the latest stable release but it only support the latest Nvidia graphic drivers, AMD for Debian users is not the best choice the latest driver were made in 2015, Debian AMD users share the same driver.. (https://wiki.debian.org/AtiHowTo )

-Not many people know about how good is Linux Lites even with some minor bugs.

I hope people in the staff would think about it, in 2024 without a strong Social Media, a big community will be forever unknown... so not a possible option to try this OS

Installing Software / Re: Error while trying to install something on the terminal

Can you explain in simpler terms please? I'm pretty new to Linux.

OK. I got it. I'll see what I can do. Now, I'm pretty tired and it's late here.
I need to (re)think it differently, and it takes some time.

Best regards!

Ok, take your time. :)

Hi!

From my perspective, emotionally mostly, I like the idea.
The fact is that over the years, I gave up this idea, due to the frequent changes in the world of the Linux development landscape.
The real problem with such a section is that some 99% of the Linux Apps, are developed "pro-bono", and financially supported (if...) through some kind of donation mechanism.
Usually, for Apps development, this is difficult. Most developers use their spare time so a full cycle, might take more than one year. This leads to OS version related incompatibilities. I've already seen it in my list of apps and on this Forum also, even a few days ago.
Many upgrade procedures fail due to missing the appropriate version of a PPA software.
This is simply an annoyance easy to remove, by disabling the PPA line in the "Other Software" tab, "Software & Updates" utility.
So, it will generate a lot of posts and inquiries regarding this or that piece of software, leading to a bloated forum Secțion.
Still, maybe the active members, might consider working on a PDF document, with general recommendations and the standard solutions for the most frequent trouble encountered during system operation and the related software pieces, mostly the User preferences.
I guess that if anyone will issue at least a draft version of such kind of manual, people around here will come with suggestions and might be gradually improved.
But, again, this is my thinking and finding volunteers for this kind of job, is rather difficult than "piece of cake".
The problem mostly resides in the skills required to fulfill such a task: computer editing (LibreOffice), image editing (GIMP), vector graphics (Inkscape) and obviously, file management over internet (Upload, download, check links, cloud storage management, fixing broken links).
This can be hardly conceived as a "one man show" if this goes exclusively "pro bono". Changes are too many and way too frequent!
Years ago, I did this kind of job an it usually takes some 6 and more hours a day. Which is practically speaking, a full-time job.

Obviously, we are discussing here ideas that might improve the overall life in this community: this means that I am opened to any new ideas.
I have some doubts regarding a forum Section due to the fact that I have my own Forum and I am facing the same dilema: Add s Section? Wait? If I add it, will it go sideways? If that happens, what then?
From the admin's perspective, it's difficult to ponder the value of an idea in what's regarding the extra-work for the Admin and (if any...) the Moderators.
Remember, all Moderators are doing pro-bono work here, just because they love the community and the distro itself.
Dedication, passion is the engine that drives their work. Still... they need to eat, sleep, do some trivial housework (shopping, personal finances management and so on) and all those, on top of a work (day to day job) that sucks lots of the daily resources.
Did I mention the family? What if the life partner has nothing to do with computers?
There are many variables in this equation so it is by far a difficult decision to ponder, and even more difficult to make it happen.
And there is another fact:
Hosting costs. And the expenses, increase by a traffic based factor. This (linuxliteos.com) is nothing like a new Forum so, the traffic, might blow through the roof just for say, 2 minutes. If this happens once or twice a month, it is OK. Even more than twice, might still be OK.
But if this begins to be a kind of weekly habit, this is a "Red flag" sign. You need more storage, a better CPU/RAM ratio, a better mysql server ratio and all those are more and more expensive.
If you are unfamiliar with those site-management daily tasks, than it is unlikely you will, and can understand the reluctance of the Forum Management Team in extending the Forum.
It's far easier said, than done...
That means nothing else than that I understand both perspectives, but having the both ways practice (I've been blogging and creating content for over 17 years already), I am forced to see things through both perspectives to get "the bigger picture".

With those being said, I hope we can find some solution to this general interest problem.
The idea of adding entries to the Lite Manual, is also less practical and more trouble generating, due to the same reason: lack of man-power. What could be accomplished, is already there. Going further, means more man-power. How do we get to this?
Do you think I even dare to think asking Jerry, or some of the Moderators how much they spent on Forum related things?
I see how much it takes me and this is enough.
As long as I am OK, I drop a visit here, write something. If it wears me off, I just reduce my visits to the minimum amount required for recovery. It is as simple as that!
And if anyone thinks is different than I am, I'm still here, we can discuss the "How to"s.

Best regards, Șerban.
