There is this reference in the manual .....
https://www.linuxliteos.com/manual/software.html#winprogs

which in turn links to a post on the forum
https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/on-topic/linux-replacements-for-windows-programs/

Thxs,

The second link is really a good one. Well we don't have so many users in this forum .But perhaps some day could be good if Linux Lite 6 users could vote within a really main section with more posts and what was their experience with that software, or perhaps a software button like the one we currently have in Linux Lite 6.6 to share what hardware we have running this distro.

Beware, in the first link those people use at most Linux Lite 5x, many of that software is outdated. And even the website of Master PDF Editor shared in both links doesn't exist (error 404)

Other / Re: Network connection and software update icons disappear
« Last post by Tenderfoot on April 07, 2024, 01:32:14 PM »
I also have this problem with the updates and networks icons not showing up on a fresh boot on Linux 6.6.  If I continue to reboot over and over again using the restart option in the shutdown menu, eventually the Network and Update Icons appear correctly next to the Sound Mixer Icon.  I generally only lose the visibility of the Network and Update Icons.  Very frustrating because I like to enable VPN at boot time most of the time, but if you can't see the Network Icon, it's pretty much impossible to enable the VPN using the built in GUI Interface.    Yes, I did install over a version Linux Lite from about 6 years ago, but have created separate /home, /, boot and swap partitions across 2 separate drives.  / and Boot are on the SSD and /home and swap are on a 2TB WD hard drive.  Everything has been working great since the upgrade with the exception of this crazy icon issue.

Any suggestions to fix this would be welcomed.

And how do i do that?

Not sure which bit of the post you are asking about.

o specificare una soluzione
Is a reference to the fact that the command that apt suggested can't resolve the problem.
That means we have to work out what is wrong and specify a solution to get apt or dpkg to correct the situation.
This is proving difficult.

You could check your cli history to see what commands were run to install.
This assumes you used the command line to install powerctl.
If you did, open a terminal by pressing 'Ctrl' Alt' and 'T' together
In the window that opens enter the command
Code: [Select]
historyfollowed by enter.  This will list the most recent commands entered on CLI.
Scrolling back through the list may show the command(s) used to install the powerctl software - provided you haven't used too many commands since installing or cleared the history.

I found out that after i installed "cpufrequtils" i couldn't install apps, is there a way to delete this?

this is the commands that i used :
 171  apt-get install cpufrequtils
  172  apk add cpufrequtils
  173  sudo apt install cpufrequtils
then i got the error, and tried to fix it
  174  apt --fix-broken install

It looks like the (o specificare una soluzione) is required.

The powerctl install is a possible suspect but we need the timeline or more details about powerctl to be sure.
You could check your cli history to see what commands were run to install.

There is a danger in trying to resolve without knowing the problem will make things worse.
Unless someone else has insight then re-installing may be the best choice and the quickest way of getting to a stable system

Consider using 'System Restore Utility' and 'Backups' when building a new system to save time if things go wrong.

And how do i do that?

I tried to run the command but it gave me an error :

dpkg: errore nell'elaborare l'archivio /var/cache/apt/archives/linux-tools-commo

E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

maybe i should reinstall linux :( ?

Yes i installed a software called "powerctrl" to get performance, maybe this is why i get the error? And if it is, how do i delete the software?

linux-tools-common is associated with system monitoring applications so it is possible.  We need to know what you did.
I'm not familiar with powerctl.  Do you have any links to the method you used to install ?
Any reputable software should give instructions on how to uninstall and also show what packages it needs (dependencires)

my problem started yesterday
Did your problems start after the powerctl installation ?

If you can directly attribute the problem to the powerctl install AND confirm powerctl uses linux-tools-common then either
1) try the command 'sudo apt --fix-broken install' as we did before without the '--dry-run' option.
2) uninstall powerctl
1) I installed it by a youtube tutorial i don't remember what video
2) i can't really tell if powerctrl caused the problem, but i will try to delete it and see if the problem persists

Hi,

I've tried many years Debian distros thinking it'd be the fastest ever Desktop (PC), Laptop..
But finally with the same "Debian" PC I tried Linux Lite 6.6, and my computer is running really well, even much better with the latest Debian distro I tried. Sincerely I always was afraid of Unity plus Ubuntu heavy software which always made my PC so slow...

although Linux Lite is something different and I think more people should know it

But everyone use a computer with software... and because Linux Lite is not a "pure" Ubuntu "child" not every software is available, not every people have the patience to try and get the right Linux Lite packages.

So my suggestion is that :a main section of recommended software for Linux Lite should be opened at least in this forum.

For example, even after I installed flatpak, snap through Synaptic and Software Gnome Center, Waterfox is not really available for Linux Lite happily Libre Wolf were ok.

If that goes well, people also could share how they configure that software "hidden" :fingerscrossed for Linux Lite users
