Updates / [ SOLVED ] Update Error dpkg was interrupted - Spud9

Quote
New to Linux, can anyone point me in right directio to fix this error?

Apologies for starting new thread - there is currently a problem with the forum software which prevents opening threads if there is an apostrophe the subject.

To fix this, following the instructions will usually work, but you need to prefix the command given with 'sudo'.  Open a terminal window by pressing Ctrl Alt T.  Then in that window enter

Code: [Select]
sudo dpkg --configure -a
followed by return.  Enter your password when asked and then run updates again.

Installing Software / GC Star Query - devoman

My original post about not being able to install "Puddletag" has been solved. But I am unable to see any replies from my original posted question. I've tried logging in and out of my Linux Lite Forum account and can't see any replies as it just returns me to the post listings.

In any case, let me explain how I got it to install. Initially, I had looked through the Package Manager and "Puddletag" was nowhere in sight. So I opened up a terminal and did a search of Flatpak for it. It returned a "not found" message. Around midnight I thought maybe I'll try looking through the Flatpak "Software" GUI program. At first, I couldn't even see where I would enter a search term and began just looking through categories. But then I realized the screen was kind of set up like the way Gnome 3 is. I spotted a magnify glass icon at the top left corner and entered "Puddletag".

Lo and hold, there it was! But it showed "puddletag-snap" which I would assume means it's a snap package (does anyone really like snaps?). I installed it without a hitch though. Let's call that chapter closed for now. Thanks for anyone who tried to help me with my original post. Sorry I can't read your reply.

On a similar note though, I was looking forward to installing GCstar collection database and can't find that either in the original Linux Lite package manager or in Flatpak. I have a very large music collection I was hoping to catalogue this summer. This is another example of the original author's website saying "do this and do that" but it looks to involved to be worth it.

Anyone else have GCstar installed on their Linux Lite installation (5.8)? (I hope I can see your replies this time around!)

Apologies for starting a new topic on your behalf.   There is a problem with the forum software at the moment which means that topics with an apostrophe in the Subject line cannot be opened properly so reading and responding to posts doesn't work.

Jerry did respond to your original topic on puddletag with
Quote
Looks like puddletag was left out of Focal (Series 5x) by Ubuntu. Reference: https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=all&searchon=names&keywords=Puddletag

You could try installing the 'all' version from bionic in that link. There's no telling how that would end up, so the smart thing to do is try it in a VM first. Good luck.

Sent from my Mobile phone using Tapatalk

but you may not have been able to read it.

I can't help with GCStar, other than to say it appears the last release was in 2016 and it has been dropped from ubuntu repositories. Maybe someone who has used it can reply to this thread.

Installing Linux Lite / Your PC needs to be repaired - litepav
« on: April 27, 2022, 09:05:32 AM »
Quote
Hi,

I was using windows. Then I installed Linuxlite on legacy mode. It then didn't boot up. I realized my mistake and reinstalled Linuxlite on UEFI this time. Unfortunately It didn't boot up again. Only if I manually drive through UEFI firmware setting > Boot Device Options > Ubuntu, then the machine opens up with LinuxLite installed in it.

But when I normally open it up, it shows up "YOUR PC/DEVICE needs to be repaired. A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed."

Help me out please.

Apologies for opening a new topic - there is currently a problem with the forum software that prevents opening topics with some types of punctuation in the title.

Refer to https://www.kapilarya.com/how-to-perform-automatic-or-startup-repair-in-windows-10

Basically, you need a copy of your windows version on bootable USB or DVD media which you boot from (you may need to alter BIOS settings) and you should be able to try clicking

Repair
Advanced Options
Troubleshoot
Startup Repair

Edit - Did you try pressing F1 to enter Recovery Environment?  I don't know how far you can get without the Windows media.

Other / Cant Play mkv files

Apologies for starting a new thread but there's currently a forum problem which prevents opening a post with some punctuation in the Subject title.

Help. I tried installing ubuntu restricted extras, tried install new video player apps, nothing works.

In a standard set up VLC (along with many others) will play multimedia in mkv container.
If several multimedia applications are failing to open a media file it suggests there may be an issue with the file rather than the players so you may need to provide a bit more information.

What is the file and where is it from ?
Do you get any error messages when you try to play the file ?
If you check the media file with VLC or something like MediaInfo (if you have it) of ffmpeg do they report any anomalies ?

Other / [ SOLVED ] Difficult to Grab Window Edge
« on: March 31, 2022, 01:23:30 AM »
Quote
Hi!
My first post here. :-)
I have huge difficulty grabbing the window's edge with the mouse cursor, when I want to resize it. The margin for this is very narrow. In other distros (or OS) there is no problem with that.
Is there any way to change it?
Thanks!

oxygenium79

Apologies for starting a new thread.  If a thread subject contains some punctuation it cannot be opened properly due to a temporary issue on the forum.

Your difficulty could be related to the desktop theme you are using.  Different themes have different window frame width.  The LL default is Adapta which is quite narrow.

Go to Menu -> Settings - Window Manager

Under the 'style' tab make a note of your current theme, then select others in turn.  This should dynamically alter the desktop so if you have a sample window open on the desktop you can see if the frame width becomes easier to select.   'Default-xhdpi' might be one to try.  If you can't find an installed theme to suit, you can import others.

See Help Manual - Customize - Themes and Icon Sets

Enabling auto login using the GUI method I used changed the file

/etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

and put my user name on the line 'autologin-user='

Errors in this file if manually edited can cause lock out.

Sorry about starting a new thread - the option to reply appears to not be working for me.

I don't use auto-login but as an experiment, I tried

Control Panel
Lite Auto Login

Clicked 'Enable Auto Logoin'
Entered password
Accepted the disclaimer

Re-booted and was auto-logged in

Disabled auto login using the same path

Other / [ SOLVED ] Print Screen
« on: January 08, 2022, 09:38:32 AM »
Ean,

Try pressing the print screen key without the ctrl or alt key.  It should open a utility called Screenshot which leads through a screen or window capture to a file. Or try opening Screenshot from the menu - probably under accessories.

Anyone else having a problem replying to some posts ?  Specifically posts with an apostrophe character in the subject line don't seem to open but just link back to the forum section listing.

Using firefox  95.0.1 with a few plugins.

I'm seeking advice with a failed update.
Log attached - mentions 'no space left on device'.
Do I need to remove the unused packages or is it more complex ?

Thank you.
